Thumbs down Maths question on a Friday mpg

Need some help maths boffins.

We're getting rid of our diesel average 41mpg as its always short journeys
Fill up between £20-£30 a week

Looking at getting a car that averages 32mpg but petrol

Round our way there's about 7p difference a litre between petrol and diesel.

So my question is would there be much difference between the two how much fuel we'll be chucking in it

£30 per week diesel

Assuming diesel is £1.45 per litre that's 20.69 litres per week. = 4.55 gallons

@ 41mpg that means you are travelling around 186 miles per week.

For petrol @ 32mpg for 186 miles you will need 5.81 gallons.

5.81 gallons @ £1.38 per week (7 p difference)= £36.46 per week.

So the petrol car would cost you an extra £6.46 per week.

But use the local fuel prices or she'll rip your argument to bits. Diesel is currently 136.7 per litre at this end of the county.

Reduce the 32mpg figure slightly to 30mpg and you can also take the argument to the wife that an Impreza will fit the bill (going off the book 30mpg figure quoted for newage WRX)

To achieve the same cost you would need a petrol car capable of 39mpg.

Yes but a petrol car should be cheaper to purchase than the equivalent diesel car and then there's the servicing costs...

E46 323 Shane.

The Audi bores the hell out of me.

If my missus is driving it she'll squeeze the best mpg out if it , then I'll ruin it when I'm in
