If you want a package deal then Teletext is hard to beat for comparing prices etc.

If going the independent route then shop around, try the likes of Expedia, Lastminute, Hotels.com etc.

We've just recently come back from Mallorca and will be back off there about the same time as what your going.

The ones I compare deals with are travel republic, fleetway travel, broadway travel and sun master. I haven't found anywhere else that come close to them.

Before you book check the hotel reviews on tripadvisor so you know roughly what your getting and know what to expect. It's also worth checking the transfer prices as it's not far from the airport.

I found that if you book it at the last minute you sometimes end up paying more than you would if you booked it a week before.

I have often just booked flights then take a chance getting a nice villa somewhere last minute. I usually trawl through holidayrentals.co.uk.

I assume i'm missing out here but not having checked the above ways of booking a holiday. I've booked a week in Tenerife at a hotel I like (went to last year) for 6 of us through Thomsons. Are the above methods far cheaper than using the likes of Thomsons?

I was looking online for holiday deals with her in doors, and we got a better deal popping into a Thomson shop in town when we were heading out for lunch. I had to pop back out afterwards for a beer to calm my nerves after paying the bill mind you.

In store they gave us a better price and organised the hotel on site at the airport the night before so we could drive up stay the night and park the car for a fortnight. No added cost (yes, I'm sure the cost was in there somewhere to begin with), however it still came out cheaper than online alternatives with this accounted for.

£3k for me, the Wife and 4 kids at a 4 star half board in the Canaries and a hotel we've stayed before and think is excellent. I snapped their arm off at that price as had it been a couple of weeks later it would have been 50% more at least.

I ususally look on those websites and wonder how many people actually trust them enough to think there having a good deal to use them

The last one I booked a couple of weeks ago (travel republic) cost us less than £500 for a 4star half board, for 8 nights in Can Pastilla, which is 5 minutes from the airport. You'll be paying a premium for the kids summer holidays, which is a rip off, as fuel, etc doesn't cost any more. AI is fine if the package is right but some places try to limit you on AI by throwing on the dreaded extras and exclusions. The price to eat and drink out in Mallorca is probably about the same as over here, if not more.

Another one I use is holiday genie but that's mostly for flights to Tobago but they can have some good deals on from time to time.

No Scooby here, that went years ago and replaced with a 7 seater 4x4 that manages 30mpg. And yes i'm bled dry every month so the holiday is a big expense and I do a lot of overtime to pay for it.

The one thing I couldn't do is try and put a holiday together myself, the stress of worrying if it all goes as planned would drive me nuts so it's always a package deal and the safety that goes with it.

Do you mean a package as in just flights, hotel and transfer?

Yep and the protection/assurance you get by going through a main travel company.

I'm not even sure the hotel we go to you could even book rooms yourself as it is always fully booked so I imagine all rooms are bought/reserved by the holiday companies.
