hi need some advice.I recently bought a mexican pine table for the living room. My daughter aged 3 and son aged 2, have decided to re-decorate it with a screwdriver ( i know my fault for leaving within theire sight!), but now the table has deep scratches and holes everywhere on the top. What is the best way to fix this, using a electric planner and plane the whole top or a orbital sander? i tried a sandpaper by hand and that did nothing except give me extra muscles. any advice, thanks

If it's valuable, get professional advice. I'd lean towards trying to colour match with filler in any deep gouges and then sand lightly and polish.
