It was a Known thing with the iphone 4, thought to be made better if it has a bumper case? it's something to do with the aerials (the metal strips each side of the phone).

are you updating using the phone or itunes? because doing it through just the phone should be a lot quicker as it does incremental updates, whereas itunes downloads the whole thing each time...

I am posting this on an iPad, great bits of kit, sure, but I had even less luck making calls than you with the iPhone

Been trying for 3 days to make a call, still no joy and its quite tricky to get in your jacket pocket to boot

Not quite sure what all the hype is about tbh

Phone calls

That's so nineties like texts

Think I've only made a quids worth of calls of my 4s since Xmas

That's why emails photos, and iPhones messengers for

Those. That watch the pennies retire earlier

I have a HTC Desire HD. Yes, may be able to run the world from it but making a call is painful. Infact all these new Smart phones, all good but the phone function is poor.

I have a Nokia Classic for work, never drops a call, all has reception, battery last for ever.

My HTC Desire S on the o2 network has been excellent for calls over the last 12 months.
I don't remember having dropped any calls.

Can honestly say I've never had an issue making calls from my iPhone 4.
Can't be bothered debating it all though as I can see how this thread will go, either locked or merged with the trollfest thread.

Its not just call dropping, but if I dail a number, the phone can just seem to wait and do nothing, then bip and go back to the number pad screen. Or it can seem to take ages to connect, like the phone is sleeping for 10 seconds.

Ive tested this a number of times. I often do reboots, to clear everything up. I suppose its a PC at the end of the day, so depending on what else is running, phone can be slow to react.

Also, I hate touch screens, my wide fat fingers seem to press lots of buttons, and can be a pain.

Make an appointment to see the technical guys in their store, if it's in warrenty and has a genuine fault they will probably swap it for a new one there and then.

Problem was with the 4 not the 4s. My 4 had some issues, got a replacement sim card (genius bar suggestion) and its been perfect ever since.

Apparently dropping calls can be a sim issue so try that.

what do i have to do or ask for to me an appointment? that sounds a lot better popping to a store than sending the phone off for days

I phoned up Apple Customer Support, they organised the appointment and then I popped through to store to do the rest. They should be able to give you some sort of indication as to what their answer will be over the phone, ie new phone or repair.
