3d tv
Would you go for active or passive ?
Saw a passive set up in store and just thought it was fun ( previously i wouldnt have been bothered at all , but its no more expensive than 2d now)
am i right this type turns 2d to 3d at the touch of a button ?
why would you bother with active
We looking new tv ( crt presently) and feel its between
TX-P42GT30B , active
kdl 40hx723 , active
lg,samsung, panasonic led , passive < all not quite the pedigree of the 2 above

I think with the active some people get a flickering effect also you have to change or charge batteries and extra sets are quite a few quid, some of the passive ones come with 7 sets of specs and they are also cheap for extras. Don't forget you'll need a 3d bluray player as well for your films.

We have an LG 47" passive, stunning picture, but you need to be at least 6 foot away, otherwise you can see some noise within the picture..
The Lg'S need some carefull setting up, to get the best from them, and can suffer from DSE (dirty screen effect), although you have to be really picky to spot it,
I read a review yesterday in what HI-Fi, they were saying all of the active manufacturers have now developed and released passive sets, as this is where the market appears to be shifting to
We went for the Lg for a number of reasons (price wasnt one of them lol )
it had a stunning HD picture 2D & 3D, smart options, and it came with 7 pairs of glasses....try that on an active tv, and that woulsd have been potentially another £700 quid on top of the asking price

Active allows for a higher resolution/frame rate from memory. Passive is only 720p whereas active can give you full 1080p 3D. Willing to be corrected as I didn't really care about 3D when I sold TV's.

the effect of turning 2d into 3d is one that just appears to give things more depth, not to make things come out of the screen
I believe even the recent Titanic in 3d at the cinema really just adds more depth and doesnt bring the action out of the screen

Iv no idea. We were watching one in store with the cheap glasses. Stuff came out of the screen enough for me.

It will come out of the screen when its specifically been made to do that
any 2d film cannot be made to come out of the screen (without extensive reworking) but can have depth added
An example I have the 2d version of Harold & Kumar Christmas which was shot in 3d so lots of things come out of the screen at the cinema
On a 3d TV the 2d source switched to pseudo 3d only adds depth, anything in the cinema that flew out of the screen at you doesnt on a 3d tv unless watching 3d source if that makes sense

I have this actual model TV, just not seen the Gadget show review yet.
Got my Tv for 360 quid. Then spent almost another 120 to get 4 pairs of glasses, 2 universal's, 2 sharp's.
Watched a few films in 3d, it doesn't really work that well on me, although watching the passive in the shops seemed better for me.
Not a bad TV though, the internet is usless, no flash player, although there is a youtube app. No BBC iplayer of 4Od etc either.

I read somewhere that TV's are being developed that do away with the glasses. Also remember a few deals on HotUKDeals that had dirt cheap TV's wth passive 3d. Reading up it very much seemed that the passive was the poor cousin of 3D.
IMHO it's a gimmick at the moment - not enough quality content out there to warrant a 3D tv and when there finally will be, the tech will have moved on by then
Somebody somewhere is looking at hologramatic stuff too - now that would be kick ***!!
