Argentina Gets Increasingly Desperate and Irrational, Seizes Private Oil Assets

Argentina Seizes 51% of Oil Producer YPF to Stem Imports
By Rodrigo Orihuela - Apr 17, 2012 9:48 AM GMT
Argentina’s seizure of YPF SA (YPFD) threatens to take the country further away from its goal of energy self-sufficiency as investors weigh the increased risk of expropriation in South America’s second-biggest economy.
President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner named Planning Minister Julio De Vido to head the oil company with immediate effect and is sending a bill to Congress to take a 51 percent stake after oil imports doubled. Argentina, which wants to produce enough crude to match consumption, risks becoming “unviable” as a country because of the surge in imports, Fernandez said yesterday.
The seizure of the stake from Madrid-based Repsol YPF SA (REP) comes after more than two months of government pressure on YPF (YPF) because of slumping production.
And something else quite recently on a similar note: http://news.investors.com/article/59...ts-freedom.htm

Doubt very much if we could ever mobilise such a task force again, we just don't have the resources anymore and the cost to the nation would be prohibitive. I expect the Argies know this as well.

Quite a leap for Argentina to go from taking assets within their own jurisdiction to attempting to seize Falklands' assets under British protection, though.

We don't need a task force this time We have a fecking great big properly defended airbase, and enough C130s, C5s and Tristars to transport all the equipment and troops the Argies would ever want to face
Plus we have a nuclear submarine and a missile destroyer on permanent station in the South Atlantic
In answer to the main question though; Yes, I'd slip her one

It's turning back into some fascist state.
I do wonder if they are trying to politicise oil and gas with a view to further asserting claims over the Falklands or at least the Falklands resources?
