Billionaires Behaving Badly - Panorama
Did anyone watch this? Glencore's operations around the globe face scrutiny. Quite interesting in a number of ways.
Any thoughts?

Totally different circumstances when, as a freelance miner, you're digging hundred-foot holes in the ground just to feed yourself. It's interesting comparing that to the BBC's state-sponsored, western academic view of how life should be conducted and the standards by which it should be judged as 'the right way' and labelled moral/acceptable - even merely permissible!
Ivory tower springs to mind.

Unless you're extremely naive to the ways of the world and enjoy watching strongly-biased propaganda, probably not for the central content. But it's quite interesting as an insight into the different views and ways of life out there.

Yes, their main aim is to make money, but show me a company where this isn't the case. A certain fruit company comes to mind!

Nothing at all surprised me on that programme. Just smile and lie was their motto.
Slightly worse was that feature later (on Newsnight??) about corruption by Nigerian State Governors. One guy who had been working in UK as a nobody escaped back to Nigeria when the cops here wanted him for fraud. He then got an "in" with the ruling military and within 10 years was a State Governor and had ripped off billions from his country. His home town was something out of the 4th world and I kept thinking the b,astard might have given them a few bob for roads and sanitation.
