Lidl
Great product and good value! I've just eaten a bar Fin Carre whole nut chocolate that cost half as much as a Cadbury equivalent and tastes twice as good. Apart from the fact that one has to rub shoulders with poor people and foreigners, is there a reason not to shop there? What's the catch?

The frozen paella: Ideal when the fridge is low on stock, 5 mins in the wok, packed full of tasty goodness and serves two for a couple of quid! Five bottles of Hobgoblin for a fiver! Superb chorizo (nice with said paella), proper pukka dry-cured bacon for the same price as the watery ****e the normal supermarkets peddle....again I ask, what's the catch? Why doesn't everyone shop there; are they mad?

The fresh food is poor - however, I went on a quick shop in Tesco yesterday for the afternoon meal and some of the veg was terrible.
Where Lidl succeed is in the items they bring in overseas which is mostly re-branded stuffs we know in the UK.
We used to buy from Lidl and then buy our fresh from Tesco. Our local Morrisons has the best fresh veg. In fact, we find if we shop in Morrisons the final bill always ends up cheaper than Tesco and theres isn't that much difference in items bought. Its just a shame our local Morrisons smells of old people p1ss (although it has done since it was KwikSave)
I find more chavvy folk in Morrisons and Tesco then our Lidl and Aldi. Largely because the Lidl and Aldi aren't easily accessable on foot where as the two larger stores are within walking distance of the local council sink. I drive past Lidl and the cars are all only a few years old (although probably motorbility cars)

Beer is good there, ales like Hobgoblin are significantly cheaper than the big supermarkets.
Also their Perlenbacher German lager spectacularly good value, 6x500ml for £6, 4.9%, brewed in accordance with German purity laws (i.e. no nasty additives allowed like UK Stella etc.), very quaffable preferably ice cold whilst torturing some meat on the BBQ

THis is why you should never shop at lidl.
I once gave a hot former lapdancer a job in my bar and one night she got a friend to come help out , the friend was stunning, from EE somewhere and clearly a lap dancer but told me some other made up job. the EE girl gave me her number clearly impressed by my sharp suits and percieved social status. So a few days later in a random moment I decided to check out the local lidl as I sometimes did and low an behold the EE girl was there with her sister and once she saw me I got an instant look of shock, horror then pity as I could visibly see her mentally down grading me from potential sexual partner to broke fool who has to shop at lidl. No girl gets moist from a man who shops at lidl.

Sadly our local Waitrose is short on lap dancers but I did pop into our local Lidl. Huge place and pretty empty. But some good prices on branded products. I actually got 2 packs of frozen large prawns at £2.50 a pack and I know these are over £4 at Waitrose for same weight. Tasted good and I don't suppose they minded being sold at Lidl. dl

Superb shop. Centre aisles are always interesting, even if it feels like that bloke from the fast show who went shopping for something and bought a load of inappropriate stuff. Always found their stuff vastly cheaper and often under-rated, veg included.

Got a great Ctek-like battery charger, laser spirit level, various cheap tools that like any cheap tools are handy for occasional low duty use, batteries, bulbs, chocolate raisins, their ham and cheese are good, lots of branded items. Cheap version of Baileys tasted like the real thing.
We got an HP Color Laserjet for £80 from Aldi. Fantastic.
You don't know what you're missing!
However, I've just admitted to drinking Baileys. That is far worse than admitting to doing most of our shopping at Lidl.

What's "ours"? The jams have a higher fruit content, the muesli has more nuts and less rabbit food and the über-yummy bourguinon pies have more beef than the Sainsbury's equivalent and for less money. And should anyone wish to host a celebration look no further than their Comte de Brismand champagne......£12.99 and whilst not as sophisticated as, say, a '96 DP, it'd embarrass the likes of M&C and Lanson in a blind test. Smart people shop at Lidl.

Anyway I shop at Sainsburys but it hasn't got me laid once. If there was a lidi I might go there to buy tins and other generic groceries.

Nice. We're on smoked haddock with steamed rice and veg, all from Lidl. Sadly the missus is still trapped in the Cardiff office which is why I can't stop thinking about food. Going to make a white sauce now; parsley from garden.
