Default WTF happened to the size of Mars Bars etc...?

Haven't had one for ages and swear it wasn't much bigger than an old single twix finger

Says 58g on the packaging, anyone know what they used to be in the good old days ???

Souce Wikipedia: In the second half of 2008, Mars UK reduced the size of regular bars from 62.5 g to the current 58 g. Although the reduction in size was not publicised at the time, Mars claimed the change was designed to help tackle the obesity crisis in the UK. The company later confirmed that the real reason for the change was triggered by rising costs.[6][7] In the UK, most Mars bars are still made at the Slough Trading Estate.

It's happened to everything...

Chocolate bars, crisp packets, nutri-grain bars, etc etc ...are all smaller compared to what they used to be.

They keep the price the same but simply decrease the size/weight hoping that no one notices.

It`s nothing to do with tackling obesity, believe me. It`s all down to cost. I work for Cadburys and most of the bars that we produce have been reduced in size, simply because the costs are crippling.

Why is it cheeky? Would you rather pay £2.00 for the older size bar of chocolate.
Raw material prices have increased big time, how else would you suggest they pass on the cost?
May be they could add a 'fuel-surcharge' to every bar they sell.

Is it true also that there are things called 'Mars bars partys'?

Cheeky as in sneaky, leave the bar the same size & just charge the actual f*cking cost ... do they / you think we're daft enough to not spot what's going on ie the cost per gramme of product is probably through the roof [goes off to consult google].

TX.

PS How have car manufacturers managed to avoid us all driving around in fun sized cars?!

I'm sure they have been getting smaller for years so I remember them being 68g when I thought they were smaller and that was a good few years ago.

I remember when I was a kid 20 odd years ago my grandad used to buy a king size mars bar and needed to cut it up with a knife and used to share it with me and my sister, the things were massive back then.

“I am utterly innocent of economics, the dismal science. To me, bulls and bears have four legs and are called Bous taurus and Ursus arctos.”

“Still, I guess I’ve blown it. A ten-pound bar titillates my wildest fancy. It would be as good as the 1949 Jo Dimaggio card that I never got (I don’t think there was one in the series). And did I ever end up with a stack of pink bubble gum sheets for the effort. That’s another tale, to be told through false teeth another time.”
