Default Any accountants or personal car users for business here?

As per the title really.

The other half is a district nurse and last night, whilst visiting a patient she had her front 2 tyres slashed. She is allowed to claim mileage but thats all she gets. No car allowance, etc and its in her contact she must have a car.

I was wondering what the tax implications were, ie; could she do a tax return to claim some off the expenses back, like servicing etc or in this case new tyres.

Work are going to have a meeting with her as it happened whilst she was at work and she doesn't go to work to get her personal property vandalised. They called it, not her following her reporting it and getting new tyres so she could get back to work today.

Does her employer provide insurance cover, or does she also have to pay the extra expense of an insurance policy that covers her for business use? Most policies are only cover social use and commuting, and insurance companies tend to bump premiums up significantly for business use. If the employer has insurance cover, can she claim off that for the tyres?

I have to pay a small excess to drive to and from various hospitals........ all I get is mileage which is meant to cover petrol, insurance, wear and tear etc.

The NHS do have a range of Lease cars through Preferred companies, and they can take the payment before tax like the C2W scheme. Used to be called the "crown car" scheme.

Don't have an Impreza available though....

If she is self employed she can claim running costs or milage allowance. If she's employed then it's normal just milage allowance

Fully employed (NHS) but the mileage allowance isn't going go cover increased car servicing, insurance and vandalism when at work.

Then it would be reasonable to expect her work to compensate her for the vandalism and expense incurred.

Wear and tear can be tolerated, vandalism isnt in my book, and the NHS have a duty of responsability as they expect personal property to be used instead of company property.

In law the NHS have no duty of care towards the vehicle......

What would you like the NHS do if my car gets vandalised in the multi-storey car park in Newcastle?
