Why hasn't Handbrake worked?

I used Handbrake to rip the DVD. Import it to iTunes and then sync it with my iPad.

Not had one fail yet.

This is why i need an idiots guide , I tried following a youtube clip and I've converted the file to ipad format (mpeg4) but the sound and picture are awful. Idiots guide needed to handbrake or alternative software for dunces needed.

If the DVD is encrypted Handbrake won't be able to rip it. You might need to use DVDShrink or RipIt4Me first.

Shame the iFad doesn't have USB input. Would make things so much easier.

I am not sure I have any DVDs that will fit into a USB slot.

Also I cannot remember a DVD that would not rip with Handbrake - I am sure there must be one - but I cannot remember and I have ripped a lot of my own films for portable access.

My issue now is that with a Macbook Air I can't rip anything

Do you need me to check the settings?

I originally ripped the films to run on PSP but they run fine on the iPad too.

I like the iFad comment as well, 3 years and hundreds of millions of sales and it's a Fad? Strange.

Handbrake has a preset for iPad, you should see a drawer on the right when you open it. Just select iPad and off you go.

Why on earth mess about. Download AVPlayerHD from the app store (about £1.99)which plays just about any format on the ipad without having to re-encode, also means you're less likely to get lip sync issues from the re-encoding.

Has file transfer ability too so you can copy your vids across using itunes too.

Great app

Convert the DVD to an avi file and use an app called flex player. Just drag and drop the file onto the flex player icon in iTunes and jobs a good un. And it's free I think.

Handbrake drops straight into iTunes and not had any lipsync issues yet!

Using Handbrake, what I've done is:
Change the source to the DVD player
Select "ipad" on the preset menu
click "start"

When I view on the PC or ipad, the sound stutters with picture being heavily pixelated.

Do I need to do anything before using handbrake? Totally in the dark on encrypting and ripping !

Try a different preset, see if that plays on your PC.

I think there is a settings issue as Handbrake is usually pretty good - and as I say no issue here.

Handbrake by itself won't rip an encrypted DVD, so I'd guess that is the problem. As for a solution, install VLC as well on your computer. Handbrake will use the decryption portion of VLC and you should be able to rip the DVD.

Make sure you install bit-compatible versions of Handbrake and VLC, ie; if you have a 32-bit copy of Handbrake, install the 32-bit of VLC.

I've used the above method to rip a fair few DVD's to the AppleTV2 format and did not have a problem.

Obviously you'd want to select the iPad preset in Handbrake, but the same method above should work well for you.
