"Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space." - Douglas Adams

Surely they're just guessing what else could be out there, given that they can only see so
far.

The maximum distance that has been estimated to have been seen is 13bn light years.

As the Universe is around 13.75bn years old then we are theoretically able to see nearly 95% of the universe's history.

The other side of the coin is that we have no idea what is currently on the other side of the universe, as what is happening now will take billions of years to reach us.

But given we can see most of the history then we can make a good guess as to what is in it.

I'll bear that in mind next time I'm hunting a parking space at the local supermarket.

it was a cool flash app, but the facts behind are probably waaaaayyyyy off. (solar system is probably accurate down to the insect) but anything further out, just guesses.

i know they scientifically calculate it, but they only have to be a tiny tiny tiny percentage out and it makes it a lot bigger or a lot smaller.

you're all just in my head anyway. bloody figments of my imagination.

Cool, I'll show that to my 8 year old daughter tonight, she'll love it, especially as one of those bodies shares our surname

Actually, it will make is a tiny tiny tiny percent bigger all smaller.. Sine you're only looking at relative sizes to other things, it's not going to make that much of a difference.

OK, but don't tell her that jamz3k said Cone Nebula looks like a midgets *****

Are you even allowed to call them midgets, or is that frowned upon?
