Question

I do, around this time every month when the new edition of CAR mag arrives on the doorstep

I'm not really a majorly materialistic person, I don't dream of big houses or flash holidays, expensive jewellery etc but I do have a passion for cars and every month when looking through CAR mag I get really depressed looking at all those luvverly motors I can't afford, it really gets to me

This month I've been drooling over the Porsche Carrera 4S and Aston Martin Vanquish, George Clooney has got one (just imagine his and hers....mmmmm )

It's the only time of the month I wish I was seriously, seriously rich

4S is just a 'Turbo-a-like' clone. The narrow-bodied ordinary Carrera is far more subtle (and is also the body that RUF use).

Cool

Everytime I come on Scoobynet and see the members with more money (and toys) than sense me with my old 1994 MR2 - dreaming of owning a Scoob

We are buying one in September-ish though so cant wait (as well as keeping the MR)

I could never stand CAR. Somehow reading about little Fiat passenger vans didn't get my blood pumping. Even when Performance Car folded and was "included" into CAR, the magazine didn't improve. The only car magazine out there worth it's salt is EVO. Which oddly enough was started by the core group of editors and writers from Performance Car.
The only thing that sucks is trying to find it here in the States on a regular basis. It would cost more to subscribe then to just buy it at the news stand.
And for the record, American car magazines are garbage.

Carl & Ferg I think you are missing the point a little. Sal's comments were more in jest rather than a serious dig at the magazines themselves. For what it's worth, I would recommend reading Car this month - it has some excellent stuff in it (and yes, I also subscribe to Evo before you ask). Also the 4S isn't a just a turbo bodied 911, it's a Carrera 4 which means it gets 276bhp with 4WD, the 'S' gives it bigger wheels and tyres, lowered & uprated suspension, uprated cross drilled brakes front and rear and 'some' of the turbo body kit - making it probably the best car in the entire 911 range - which just goes to show my other half has taste when it comes to cars

Still reckon the ordinary Carrera (you can get a narrow-bodied C4 IIRC) is best

I was suffering form this an hour ago - tailing a beautiful Vanquish on the M40.....absolutely gorgeous. The sculpted sides make the new lambo look like a door stop!

Must work harder, earn more......sod it I'm off to get a lottery ticket... !

I wasn't trying to bag on CAR, just stating my preference. I think page for page, EVO creates more "want it, need it, must buy it, never afford it ever" reaction in me than any other magazine. The all carbon fibre Zonda in December's issue comes to mind. Or the feature on Nick Mason's modest collection. Red Macca GTR...

Lightbulb

Have you read the article about Jonna Lomu in this month's...
Car Collection consists of:
850bhp Street legal dragstar
650bhp R34 GTR (though from reading on the GTR board it I think car are pesimistic, I think he's running nearer 850bhp)
160db Van
And more

But most amusingly 4 playstations, including on in the bathroom so he can play GT3 on the Sh!tter

Question

Just to add, I subscribe to CAR and EVO, and EVO is much better, but I got the car subs cheaply Quite like to read about fiat vans etc sometimes too, puts things into perspective... Does anyone else find the Red A2 with RS4 wheels and a funky efficient 1.6 a vaguely interesting second car?
