Chaps,
Having a chat with Scott the other day and he said that Gatso's in the middle of Dual Carriageways are never loaded with film due to Health and Safety regs about the person who would have to dice with the traffic to get to the central res.
Anybody know anybody who has actually been prosecuted by a Gatso that was in the central reservation?
Just curious really,
Matt

Wotcha Matt
There are two camera's on the roads behind City airport which are in the middle of a dual carriageway (40mph limit).
When I used to commute that way there was often Orrificers in the middle of the road with the camera open and their white marked van further down the road in a layby.
Me thinks they do work

Phil, thanks for that - that's what I thought but Scott told me it was illegal (from a H&S point of view) for them to change the film's in these.

If people weren't covered by H&S to change the film, then they certainly wouldn't have been covered to install the cameras in the first place.
Anyway, I don't think the Police (who I've seen changing them on the A40) are covered by Health & Safety regs in quite the same way.

Well, I always thought that ones in the central res were as likely to be "live" as any others......
Matt
P.S. That's live as in, has the camera with film in it.

Might they be the type that don't need film i.e. digital? I've only ever seen one in the middle of the road and that's on The Crescent in Salford. I presume they just coned the road off to install it (to pick up on DavidRB's point about H&S on the installation)and I've never seen anyone "refilling" it and I can't remember my BEL sounding when I drive past it

I can think of several in London that are in the middle. AFAIK, there are no Digital Gatso's - the digital ones are SPECS and work completely differently.
