Default Apple TV, WTF

Apple TV, what a joke!

I bought this last week and it's typical apple rip off, £4.49 to watch national lampoons xmas vacation!

Turned it on today and saw an update, now includes TV programs. Ah, cool.. I actually like the catch up stuff and good for the kids programs too..

Err, WTF! £1.89 to watch an episode of inbetweeners or frozen planet! *FFS, this is a new low. The apple 'guru' in currys was bragging on this new TV program update to apple tv when I bought it, I honestly didn't believe even apple could stoop that low when bbc iplayer or 4od can offer all this stuff free!

When I saw this I ripped it out and boxed it back up.

What's my chances of a refund?

Indeed!

Another thing that's poor is when mirroring the ipad it doesn't fit the screen, there's just a square in the middle of the screen with your game on! The samsung tablet i tried in currys filled the screen when in game.

Try a different game. Some have one display on the iPad one on Apple TV, in full screen.

If you don't like paying for content, then convert or download in iTunes format, Computer Related is full of Pikey Pirates who are more than happy to help.

Play iPlayer via the Apple TV. Me, I'd never pay for some soap opera, but have paid for films, great having them on all devices.

Some people are so infatuated with Apple that they cannot see that they are getting ripped off ..... or they can see it but don't mind being shafted.

I think at that price you are buying the content, not paying to watch - no different to buying on DVD etc

Personally Im not at all impressed with the apple TV thing

Love my Apple TV , Great for streaming Apple Lossless Music thru the Home cinema ,
Also good for renting the odd film , Much easier than Blockbuster etc etc
Don't remember Apple forcing you to buy content , they just make it easier

We use ours mostly for downloading UK TV programmes (UK Nova ) then converting to Apple TV format and play thru iTunes.

Just bought the 2nd series of Blackadder , Cost me $10 which is about 6 quid to you , Pretty sure a DVD would cost more and I would have to leave my couch to buy it .

The problem with Virgin is that they charge £4.99 for movies!

Renting from Easy Cinema costs £2 a pop, in better quality, and I get to keep them much longer. Does anyone really think it's worth paying more than twice as much just to watch something 'on-demand'?

what happens to all this digital content (which could amount to £1000's) when the account holder pops of the mortal coil?

presumably the next of kin have to re-purchase it all over again if they want it

It's not the movie thing that annoys me, I'd probably have rented the odd new movie. It was the new TV thing that offended me, charging £1.89 for one episode of frozen planet? It's a bbc program funded by us licence payers and sold back to us by apple.

A Mac Mini under the TV is the better option. iPlayer and all other free content to your hearts desire.
