Apparently Prince William got in on the act ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15643295.stm ... wrote to them as President of the FA. He's also a serving member of the services and has had friends killed in action so wasn't a happy bunny about FIFA's decision.

And the other FAs around the world are models of propriety and would never be caught match fixing, bribing officials or taking back-handers? Oh no. The only issue with world football is the "phenomenal arrogance" of the English FA ...

Isn`t this the first time in many many years (if ever) they have even bothered to wear the poppy anyways???
So why all the fuss now??
I can understand why Fifa say no as it could open the floodgates for stupid displays, but think that the FA handled it VERY badly.

What must never be forgotten is the real significance of the Poppy and that is not just for this country either.

I just think its the FA reacting to recent public opinion than making a concerted effort to support the Legion, as they should have been supporting them a long time ago.
And for the record I`ve family who died/served during WWI, WWII, Korea, Malta, and am at my local remembrance nearly every year, and also support the Legion.
My comments were aimed at the FA, and FA alone.

The full version of this makes a lot more sense.
For The Fallen
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.
But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
By Laurence Binyon (1869-1943).

The fact I`m from a service family, and support the Legion. The FA and their over priced players will NOT pay anything to the Legion and their great work.

Very glad to see that you support the Legion and agree with your other comments.
