Retailers - you would think they weren't strugglin ...
In the market for some Binoculars..
Decided on the Canon IS 10x40 at around £320.
Jessops had them listed on their website at £319 ... I went and had a look in store - very nice, but they wouldn't drop under the shop price of £339.
Fair enough, I'll just order them online and pick-up in the store (the same store and the same binoculars! )
Arrive home, have a look around on the internet and go to Jessops site - there they are £319. I go off and look at some reviews (as I also like the cheaper, but better optically, Vanguards - with no IS).
Decide that the Canon are for me, and Jessops will be the lucky ones to get my custom.
Refresh the Jessops screen and - would you believe it - the price had changed to £329!!
I thought it was an error on the site so went back 3 days later - and the price had changed - UP TO £339!!!
Today I went into the Jessops store and had another look - the shelf price was £339. Well, times being hard and all that - retailers struggling to make ends meet - the same binoculars that I could have bought for £319 2 weeks ago were in my hands.
So, of course, I start haggling ...... they want to sell them, I want to buy, £319 was good enough 2 weeks ago, I said I would buy there and then at £320 ....... Amazon want £325.
Guess what? They said NO!!
So Jessops are doing very well for themselves, clearly ... don't need buyers, don't need cash flow - buy their shares!!!!!
The High Street isn't so tough after all
You've lost a customer Jessops - lost a customer .............

I don't think shops are doing as bad as being made out by the media etc.Was out in town today looking for a new oven, and the shops were packed out.I walked into the last on my list appliance store expecting it to be empty,it was effing rammed out with people buying, must of waited atleast 25 mins before any staff were available.Anyhow i settled for a Belling, very nice too.

Somethings happening.
People seem to have decided that enough misery is enough - and are spending rather than sitting on loads of savings which are not keeping pace with inflation.
Mortgage applications and approvals are up ..... people are taking their collective foots off the brakes - could be good for the economy, if confidence has returned.

The assistant went out the back to ask the 'manager' ....... manager didn't even bother coming out into the shop - they had 2 in stock, you would have thought they would have sold one this morning if a willing and able buyer was stood in the shop?

You'd have been better of going to an InFocus. Much better range, and staffed by people who know what they are talking about......
But then they don'tt do haggling, and they don't let riff raff like you in!

I'm surprised Jessops are still going... They have been struggling since before the recession and have closed endless amounts of stores...
Find a discount code and buy them for your primal price or buy both sets in the store open them and return them.
Buy them a week later for a reduced price as they have been opened?

Wifes hair salon had worst month since taking over in May 2010. Retailer below my office is 5k down on last September.
Out of town shops are probably popular with all the wannabes still bumming their credit cards. Mates ex wife just gone over 100k on cards apparently.

You can understand though why ordering off the net is popular, you get the same item for less than if you pay in store, and you haven't got the hassle of town parking, one way streets no entry roads etc that our lovely councils have done to encourage you into town by car,i wouldn't use public transport if you paid me.I've done the reserve and collect thing myself, and still got it for the internet price though.
