Default Screwfix: ANOTHER set of utter robdogs!!!

I've lost count of the number of times on here I've pointed members at the Screwfix site for a variety of things.

But no more

Their latest catalogue, and online, shows that most items have increased by 10% , quite a few by up to 30% and not a small few by up to 50%.

Now THAT's not in line with inflation, is it? It's more like, "Oh, look, we need to pay for this huge advertising campaign!"

They have seriously lost the plot.

I recently wanted an impact driver. Their price was £140, which rose to £149 with this ctalogue. I could buy one online for £86, and eventually paiod £77

The acrylic seant I wanted WAS listed at £1.19 a tube in the spring catalogue, it's now £1.79, a massive 52% increase

Needless to say, I will now shop elsewhere.

I will look for local store closures within a couple of years. Another good idea gone bad through greed.

Absoloutely. I have the one I wanted here in my house, no box, but unused and with instructions, £77..........that is just over half their price.

I don't particularly like screwfix but have picked up the odd thing when desperate. We get far better rates at Builders merchants on the whole and I don't think screwfix have ever been that cheap, but that's because we buy a large amour and have good terms. For the jobbing builder/diyer I think screwfix has probably saved people money.

All I would say in their defence is we have had letters off a huge amount of our suppliers warning of double digit increases in the next 6 months, it's an unfortunate fact that prices are on the way up.

I do think since b and q took screwfix over (kingfisher group) they aren't as cheap as when they first appeared. No surprise that as they were taking business hand over fist off b and q

Well there's the reason why it was so cheap, something out of it's retail box is always cheaper, whether it's an OEM item or returns. Not really a fair comparison.

I've always found them pretty competitive for nuts and bolts, plumbing fittings and a good few other basic hardware consumables, but less so for bigger ticket items like power tools. Saying that, the Screwfix and B&Q 5 minutes away from here are virtually next-door to each other, so it does make the whole business of shopping around for the best prices that much easier.

I agree, everytime I've looked at buying something from Screwfix, I've found it cheaper elsewhere: Usually Lawson HIS for power tools (although not so good recently), and Toolstation for the odds and sods, TLC direct for the electrics (although not so cheap these days) and City plumbing or Plumb nation for the plumbing. This has been the case for a good number of years now.

Since they were bought bvy B&Q?

They will lose customers over this latest HUGE price rise.

Rises in double figures DOES NOT mean doubling prices.

Are you sure it’s not counterfeit? There are a lot of very good copies around online.

well b&q has always been a rip-off.
as for toolstation, they are cheap but there power tools are pants.
last thing i bought there was a hammer drill that the chuck exploded the second i touched the first wall with it.
cheap power tools are a false economy.

When I was doing my house up a few years ago I got a lot of stuff from screwfix - tended to find I could get a pack of 10 whatever for the same price 2 in B&Q - doing a radiator for my mum recently I needed some fittings - went and priced them in B&Q - same price as screwfix was quite surprised although the radiator was a fair bit cheaper from screwfix compared to B&Q or Wickes.
