Question Tattoos on necks ....

What does it say about that person?

I don't like Tats anyway .... but, I don't follow the crowd so wouldn't have one myself (I like to be individual, see?)

But, on the neck?

Tats have become middle-class conformity.

I have tattoo,s, two on my neck, and personally, without blowing my own trumpet, i think im one of the nicest blokes you could meet, i dont hang around on street corners doing coke and mugging old ladies anyway. I saw a tattoo i wanted and thought it would look good on my neck, although it is only visable when wearing t,shirts, i wear collared shirt for work and it cant be seen.

Tattoos dont have the stigma attached that they used to have although i still get strange looks from some people, but they are mainly older people who were around when tattoos were a taboo subject

I'm asking as I had the misfortune to watch Jeremy Kyle this morning .... the half-wits, thick and chavvie all had neck tats.

It does stereotype .... just wanted to gauge SN opinion.

I do think something is missing from ones brain to get the neck tattooed in all honesty - cannot see why someone would want to do it ............... worse, if it is someones name, or a swallow!

But, I am very old .... I come from a time when men were men and didn't 'do' moisturising and cr4p

In the old skinhead days it was quite common to see a kind of "cut here" tattoo around a neck with a small pair of scissors shown.

I wonder if these kids regretted it when 20 years on they tried to apply for a respectable job? You just don't seem to see many lawyers/accountants/dept heads/coppers with "cut here" tattoos.

Can they be removed?

Pretty stupid IMHO, shows lack of foresight and immaturity; inability to think that what you see as edgy and hip now might embarrass you in middle age. Also can be a form of self harm.

The body is important in social interaction. Would you go shopping naked?

I happen to agree. I mix with people from all walks of life. Some of the 'birds' and I mean that as in they have done the bird, are shady people, not a tattoo or eat peircing in site, yet some of my prim and proper White collet family man type friends, are covered in them, one has a full sleeve. It's shocking.

I don't really care much for how people want to modify their bodies.

Tattoos, hair extensions, boob jobs. It's all down to what the individual wants.

If we all wondered around worrying what the PS Lewis' of the world thought, we would all be pretty bored and BORING!

Point taken ..... but, and this is the brutal truth, the pslewis' of the world are the ones who hire, fire and dictate incomes in a vast amount of cases.

Sometimes it's better to 'conform' than to shoot yourself in the foot!

It is indeed up to the individual, but that individual needs to realise that not everyone thinks it looks great and if they change their mind they are stuck with it, I would ttake people on face value when they come for interview but I would wonder what they had been thinking when they had it done, same with any of the other visible parts of the body.

Usually there is two types that have, it the aforementioned trendy middle class tattoo wearer and the nutter, depends on the design, if it says "ACAB", "CUT HERE" or "F*CK" then they are a nutter, if its some ethnic symbol or other new age stuff then the wearer probably has a flat cap, an Ipad and hangs round Starbucks looking so achingly hip, probably wonderign why they keep missing out on jobs.

Tattoos are fine but on the visible bits its a decent way to start your process of opting out of normal society, fine if you want to do that and if the "straights " cant handle your individuality and free spirit type stuff but you average Bank Manager, Office manager, Police recruitment person or whatever may make certain judgements, rightly or wrongly.

Conformity is what we are programed to beleive in from the second we put on that school uniform.
It's opressive!

I would rather have a bit of fun, live my life and have some inginuity, rather than be a sheep and play safe.
I mean that in a general sense, not just in relation to tattoos.

I will say, I dislike the 'mine was off the second page' types of tattoos. However, when someone want to have something on their body that means a lot to them, something that they have created that means a lot.

Producing my children has marked my body, I didn't choose that. I don't like it. I don't think it looks
good, at all.
So why not mark your body in a way that someone feels good about it?

Surely to be self harm, you would have had to have tattoo'ed yourself ?

My tattoo studio wont do necks as they dont like nack tattoo's. Even tattooists have a point where they say no.

Dont think I ever would get one on my neck.

Plenty of ways to express individuality without tattooing your neck.

You'd have to be a fool not to realise that the moment you do that, you're considered thick, wannabe-hardman, probably both. But individual? Nah.

Unfortunately visible tattoos can make things more difficult when getting a job.

Of course it is, but I cant imagine anyone that's willing to have a tatt on their neck is worried about A) having a customer facing job or B) what anyone cares of his tattoo.

Naked shopping? Only online Tony, and even then I tend to wear wellies.

I believe a neck tattoo is now a minimum required for a Jeremy Kyle guest
