False advert to get your phone details so a salesman can call and push you to have something else, (probably on finance) IMO. The car won't exist as either out of stock or no longer available.

Try it and find out.

If it is as I suspect, save the website and foward it onto advertising and trading standards.

I'm a cynical old fart.

Dosent it 'have' to be sold at advertising prices though? otherwise thats false advertising which is illegal?

If you have paid for something and they accept the payment you have some sort of contract.

In theory, yes, but in practice no.

They can always discontinue current stock whenever they like; i..e if they don't have any to sell to you at that price. Then they can't sell it to you.

Its the same as retailers claiming to sell certain items at prices much cheaper than their competitors, but not actually stocking it with the pure intention of offering you a lesser spec or more expensive 'equivelent' item- Pixmania for example do this regularly without being held to task over it, they may stock one or two of the said item just to stay legal, but proving that is another matter.

It's not false advertising, it's a mistake. Happens on all websites at some point.

When you are updating hundreds of products on a website, the odd mistake is bound to happen.

They don't have to sell to you at that price, thats just a myth

Argos did this once.. 42 inch tv £40. They sold 400 in one night and had to honour the online orders that went through..

Nonsense. If they did honour it, they did it purely for PR reasons not because they had to.

You're confusing contract law. The advert has a price which is in legal terms 'an invitation to treat'. The seller can choose to accept or reject your offer irrespective of what the list price is. There is no legal compulsion for them to sell the car at the price listed. In the case of Argos the online orders were honoured due to the process being automated, the acceptance was done by computer.
The only case where something is actually offered 'for sale' at a specific price is at an auction. The auctioneer invites bids at a set price and when you bid you are legally entitled to whatever you have bidded for, unless you are outbid of course.
