"protect you yourself at all times"
that is the cardinal rule
no problems with Mayweather, tiny bit of sharp practise
but "you snooze you loose" and the guy lost

He does what he has to do to win, in this case he was taking a few knocks on the ropes prior to the butt. He then realises that Ortiz is a real danger, so takes the chance any way he can. Shame, I thought Ortiz might have troubled him more.
Come on Pac Man, let's get it on!

Well after seeing that clip fair play to him I say, the other guy butted him ok it happens ;-) and they did touch gloves so it is a sign of readiness (Afaik) the other guy was too busy not concentrating and got hit, which is the whole point of the fight.
They have judges so if it was actually illegal to have done what he did he would have been disqualified surely.

Mayweather is a pr1ck though, and can't take fair criticism. He thinks he is too good to be criticized, so when the point was raised that he struck Ortiz whle the break/apology was happening he got a cob on about it.

Mayweather is a mouthy full of **** fight dodging tart!!!!!!
He will never fight Manny even though he says he will, He`s dodged a few fights in the past and for someone who is supposed to be one of the best fighters out there,
Only the best IMO if you fight anyone who`s put in front of you, Not choose who you will or wont fight,
Mayweather `v` Pacquiao will never happen as Mayweather will retire again just in time conveniently, If it did ever happen he would get annihilated by the worlds best pound for pound fighter,
Rant over.................

Why was the ref looking away, he missed the first punch, turns round to see the second then counts him out! I was looking forward to seeing a boxing match.

Have to say, even though the ref had gestured to them to resume and stated 'Let's go', Ortiz then moved in for the hug as a further apology. The ref should have put a hand between them as they parted before once again allowing the resume. They'd barely parted from the hug when Mayweather planted his 1-2 and pretty much any fighter would have not expected that. The ref should have been more controlling, Ortiz should have been less apologetic, and Mayweather should have been less of an opportunistic tw@t. The butt was dirty, but the retaliation was totally unsporting and seriously questionable. I bet there will be an inquiry and possible no contest declaration.

Unsporting it may be but not as unsporting as the head butt. If it had connected properly that would have been serious pain along with a broken cheek bone or similar.
Agreed FM is a bellend but good on him for using a retaliation within the rules

It obviously was not illegal as he won the contest , but it was certainly unsporting,
as was the ineffective head butt.
I too don't think Mayweather will agree to fight Manny , a shame as I believe Manny would knock him out.

Mayweather is a dirty little c**nt, he always has been and will be a dirty fighter and has no sportsmanship what so ever. Frankly I hate the little **** and agree that he won't ever fight pacman because he will get his **** handed to him of he does.

was a very very cheap shot indeed.
Ortiz should have been DQ'd anyway in my eyes. trying to claim 'i moved in and he moved to me' is total rubbish blatant cheap shot.
Its a shame how low boxing has got, become like fotty where its win with every trick in the book

Shocking! I'd been waiting months for this fight and was really optimistic of Ortiz's chances after his performance against Berto.
Yes, it was a butt, had a point taken away, fair enough. Ortiz goes to give him a hug and you can see Mayweather snarl. Ortiz lowers his gloves, but then still goes to hug him. He clocks Ortiz once, who then turns to the ref to complain, (The ref - who's noted to be very favourable to Mayweather! - has called action, but is talking to the judges, presumably about the point deduction, misses both punches) then he gets put on his ***. Most fighters even after action is called, will still touch gloves or apologise to the other fighter. Common courtesy. Never have i seen someone take such a blantant advantage. (1m50s in)
Sucker punch! Yes, he should've protected himself, in his eyes he was apologising. In all the fans lose out. It was the most underhand i've seen and i'm a huuuge boxing fan.

Joe Cortez is the Collina of the boxing world, but he dropped the ball a bit here, TBF it was all 3 of their fault, the butt, ref not looking, and the unsportsman like conduct. I dont see why Mayweather felt the need to do that if he really thinks hes unbeatable? Dont get me wrong hes ONE of the most skillful boxers to step in the ring, which hurts to say cos hes a p***k, hes not a champion, yeah hes won belts in 5(?) weight divisions, but that doesnt make you a champion that ppl like in my eyes. Pacman will school him on how to be a real boxer/sportsman/champion, If he gets the opportunity. Oh and Mayweather was supposed to be the main man in this fight he took the underdogs way out, but hes not arsed, still undefeated, still loaded. As said above its us fans that are the real losers here.
