Default Newquay...

I'm off down those parts in a fourtnight, so I was wondering if there was any must see places?

I have been before, but the trip was plagued by nappy changing and early bedtimes, so any advice is greatfully received.

I am going to look on trip advisor also, as that might give some help as to where to eat and some of the more commercial type places to visit.

Thank you in advance

Just outside Newquay...

There's a cyder farm near there, very nice. The hoodie is from 'no worries' in Newquay, not Hunters cos they're crap allegedly. Nice pasty shop opposite hoodie shop, green frontage I think. Padstow is nice, as are Rick Stein's fish and chips...and his bread. Pedruthen Steps / Beach are nice, we had a cream tea at the cafe at the top, didn't rate it. Porthcurno beach is nice too, next to the Minack Theatre.

I have heard padstow is nice, so I might go there for the day.

I'm actually staying in Perranporth, which if memory serves is nice.
Travelling about isn't an issue, so a trip further a feild is fine.

So highlights of Newquay so far

Beach
Sea
Maybe a strip club or two
An expensive cyder farm
A pasty shop
A clothes shop
Expensive fish and chips
Expensive bread

I bet you are all excited about going now

I'm ecstatic!

Honestly though, it's one of those late deal haven holidays, so I'm not expecting much.
We are saving up for Disney so this is what we are doing.
To be honest, until I am back at work, it's possibly all we could afford being sensible. So it's more for the children than us.

I heard that Lappa Valley steam railway was good for young children?

Yes, but as a day with the children runs from about 8-8, I don't expect to bump into them.

I don't plan on going into Newquay itself, as the beach in Perranporth is nicer IMO.

Any advice on where is nice to eat in the evening?

padstein is a hellhole this time of year

The beach at Daymer Bay is lovely (it is NHG on sea though)

you can take the ferry from Padstein to Rock and walk, if you don't want to drive round

We stayed outside of Newquay earlier this year with two little ones.

Visted Padstow and hired a couple of bikes with trailers and cycled up to Bodmin and back along the Camel Trail which was great fun.

Mevagissey is a bit of an odd place but they have a quaint indoor model railway museum.

St. Austell Shipwreck heritage centre was pretty good too with nearby restaurants.

Personally, I can take and leave The Eden project - worth a visit once but they can keep their save the planet message to ram down someone else's throat.

Best meal you will get is at the Victory Inn pub at St Mawes
more of a quality restaurant meal than pub grub

lots of nice fishermans villages -
Padstow
Looe, has a beach as well
Polperro
nice hidden beach at Lanctic bay, good lungs needed
Mevagissey
top beach down at Porthcurno
in land - Minions (Mid Cornwall)
Steam train at Nanstallon, take a trip and have lunch or dinner
as is the Camel trail, hire Bikes in Wadebridge
loads and loads more

Newquay is ok, its no worse than any larger town at weekend
its where the younger lot are so you should know what to expect
top beaches and shops which more than you will get at most other places on the coast of the UK

Holywell Bay Fun Park Used to love karting there as a youngster.

On a side note, the opening scene of Die Another Day was filmed at Holywell Bay.
