London trip
Planning a trip to the big smoke for my wifes birthday.
Will be staying 1 night and will be accompanied by our 2 1/2 year old.
I don't know London at all, though do travel to Liverpool street station every once in a while for work so know how to get there
Anyone recommend any nice areas to stay (i.e. safe, not too hard to get to and good for visiting some attractions) and possibly any specific hotels?
Thanks

I recommend the Savoy on the Strand, pretty much central, near the river, Trafalgar, Covent Garden, Picadilly, Westminster, Bond Street, Regent Street, Oxford Street, Soho, Leicester Sq, China Town, London Eye....etc and the accommodation is very plush

Thanks for the suggestion jonc.
Rates from £395 - is that the going rate for London?
Given I have free first class train tickets it's not a massively costly weekend but sounds expensive to someone from leeds

It's the going rate for that sort of luxury accommodation. You could try this 4 star hotel, similar location and they have some deals on at the mo.

I figured since it for your wife's birthday, you didn't want to stay in some cheap grotty hotel.

Thanks again jonc,
You figured right re: the grotty hotel....was just a genuine question re: prices. £400 in Leeds would be pretty much top of the scale.
cheers
PS booked the savoy

I would reccomend 1 aldwych and the Sanderson, both top notch and both £300-350. The aldwych is very good for parking drive up, get out hand over the keys and walk in they will get the bags out take them to your room etc.

for my birthday this year, can't remember exactly how much we paid but it was one of Lastminute.com's secret hotel deals. Must have been around £150 a night, London is such a rip-off It was okay, our room was nice enough though a little tired but I think they were renovating the hotel. Can't really comment on the facilities as we didn't use them, all looked okay though.
Good for all the attractions and stuff, Buckingham Palace is round the corner & we walked to the Eye from the hotel.

Well the Savoy has had a recent £220m refurbishment so there shouldn't be any issues with it being "tired". Should make for quite a luxurious and pleasent stay and you never know you may bump into a few famous people during your stay. (I litterally bumped into Richard Harris, who sadly pass away 6 months later, not my fault!)

The Savoy is very nice. Personally I'd have suggested the Corinthia on Whitehall Place, right on Trafalgar Square, and brand spanking new. Alternatively, you have the likes of The Connaught, The Berkeley, The Mandarin Oriental all around the same price bracket (top end) as the Savoy.
Enjoy London, if its a nice day walk along the embankment and dont be afraid to hop onto any boat bars.
