Default ebay question ?

In a nutshell I've bought an item through eBay and it is not as described.. Without going into great detail, its a car part that was sold as suitable for a 2005 - 2011 car, when in actual fact the part that has arrived is from an earlier model 1997 - 2004. The part is also in crap condition..

Its only for twenty quid, and most of that was postage, but who is responsible for covering the return postage cost ?

I've been offered a full refund if I return the item and provide tracking details, but I don't think I should have to cover that cost..

I've booked a courier and it will be collected tomorrow, just wondered what eBay's stand on this was ??

Cheers

Unfortunately you have to pay the return postage and its up to the seller if they will refund the original postage If they don't make sure you neg them......

I got stung like that a few years back with a set of alloys! I was £60 out of pocket

If it's not as described, and it was a business who supplied it, it is their responsibility to pay for return postage. If it was an individual you have the right to return it for a full refund but I'm not sure about the postage costs.

Unless it states on the auction that a full refund + postage will be provided, then you will have to pay the postage cost.

Unfortunately it's probably not worth returning the item by the time the postage is paid.

I think thats correct. Is the person listed as a business seller ? Business sellers you also have the right to return an item before 7 days under the distance selling rules.

It was a private seller, I've already arranged a courier for the item to be returned. I'd sell it on, but its not a condition I would be happy to sell..

My courier has only cost me about 6 quid, so its nothing really.. Just annoyed that I've been done by this idiot!!
