Talking Concorde Trip at Manchester Airport

Just done the Concorde trip at Manchester Airport today and had a great time!
What a fantastic experience, I could have stood and marveled at it all day!! It really is a thing of beauty that blows you away when stood admiring its unique curves and mahoosive engines

Go and see it if you can, its only £13.50 and I guarantee you'll love it too

The cockpit is really small and similar to a fighter jet cockpit I was told

A close up of the nimrod plane too, the tour was closed today though so didn't get to go on board

As we came out of the tour, one of the new A380's came in to land
Doesn't do it justice this photo but honestly they are HUGE

Spot of lunch afterwards, and on the beer now
What a quality day

She is a thing of grace and beauty. And unimaginable power. Never forget sitting with Airfield Ops on the grass as she rotated off 27R. My ears were ringing for hours and the smile was stuck to my face for days.

Wonderful, wonderful aircraft.

I flew on her in 1985 (on a Le Mans charter through Goodwood Travel). Champagne breakfast at Heathrow, "laid back" crew with open neck shirts talking you through every second from when the RB211 engines were started up until we got to Mach 2 over the Irish sea.
Then brought up 2 at a time to the cockpit where probably the greatest sight of my entire life happened: The Curvature of the Earth!! (Spectacular).
Then a rather slower approach to Le Mans with a fly by at low altitude along the Mulsanne Straight. Then turned it on to it's tail, switched on the afterburners and took us up like a rocket.
Same when we departed Tours at the end of the weekend when French ATC gave permission to climb almost vertically!!

Unbelievable trip:

I still feel SO privileged.

And the cost: £550 including my centre stand ticket and hotel!!!!!

Great pics!
Bit of a random fact but my grandad was on the Concorde Design team.

They're easy to use once you've had a bit of practise and I'd personally recommend a Nikon - I used to have a Canon but I converted!

It's so sad that beautiful aircraft should still be flying, got gathering dust in a hanger.
Cheers

Apparently it handled in a very similar fashion to the "Iron Triangle" that I know so well. Nothing wrong with that! Certainly a particularly beautiful machine by any standards.

They also have one at the Brooklands Air Museum which was reassembled by those who run the museum. It was done so perfectly that you would never know it was in pieces when it arrived by road.

You can board it, and also get a very interesting talk by an expert sitting in the cockpit. I think they have videos which you can see while on board.

I was allowed to sit in the Captain's seat becuase one of the guides is an ex Vulcan pilot .

Well worth the visit as well as for all the other fascinating aircraft etc which they have there. It is interesting to sit in the twin seater Harrier and puzzle out how on earth the pilots had room for themselves while wearing all that flying kit.
