Looking to maybe get a support to help my left knee.

Get pain mostly when out having a game of golf and most off the pain appears when going downhill.

Curious to know if anyone can advise a support that should help me a bit?

I've seen the adjustable McDavid patella knee support and that seems to fit the bill, but don't want to waste my money if there was something else to consider.

Donjoy are the best but more cash, there is a medical supllies place on ebay.com who will ship to the UK and he is half the price of any company selling Donjoy in the UK.

I have a Donjoy knee brace I wear if my knee is giving me real pain or if I just go to the gym I have a hinged knee support but there is a massive difference in price between the two and the knee brace helps take away any pain but its quite large and you would have to wear track suit bottoms to hide it.

Davyboy, I seen a specialist a couple years back. The excercises I was given have worked so long, but not any more obviously and the next stage I'm sure is surgery, but I'm really not wanting to go that route ATM. Will try a support first and take it from there.

If you're getting pain then there is something wrong and it is probably causing more damage as it goes along. It may be that something as simple as a quick arthroscopy (key hole op) may remove some odds and sods floating around that could be causing damage and pain. Maybe not, but just wearing a knee support and carrying on could make the situation worse.

I agree with Davyboy go back to your specialist (or a better one) and get it checked out.

FB veteran of 2 full knee reconstructions and 14...arthroscopies over 30 years ( but I still ski ).
Arthroscopies are pretty minor surgery - a stiff knee for a couple of weeks but that's it. I haven't needed painkillers after any of my arthroscopies and spent a max of a week of work (fat office job) and in a few cases i went back the next day.

It's the ligament under the kneecap.

It's ment to run in a channel, but unfortunately, the channel hasn't formed properly and the ligament clicks in and out of the channel, when i bend it certain amounts.

It's basically the type of walking you do over hilly area's that aggrivates it. Walking generally doesn't bother it and even with my job i'm on my feet moving about most of the time. Down on my knees a lot too, but i don't get pain like when i'm out at golf. it can get uncomfortable sometimes, as though it can't get back into the channel, but again, no real pain.

It is.

I'm ok with the twisting though, which is the main thing, as it doesn't then threaten me to stop playing the game.

There's a particular hole at my local course where to get from the tee to the green(par 3 downhill), you have to take a tarmac'd path down for about 60 foot. It doubkes back on itself 3 times and is a gorgeous hole, but every step down hammers through my knee. It's number 14 too, so quite a bit through the course, which in itself is fairly hilly.

I'm 30 YO and have my first child on the way(two months time), so even if i was to get surgery, it's coming at the wrong time really. Can't be in crutcheas when the missus isn't working...

Never a good time - I was 19 for the first big one and the last one was last October - 30 years and two kids and several jobs in between. Good luck on the kid
