I've been to the dentist 3 times in as many weeks for a root canal treatment. Whilst there, I have had 5 x-rays and a white filling. Total cost, £47. Hardly a rip off!

Ok, what's a decent wage for a Dentist?
I think £75,000 a year is perfectly adequate .... Government pays that and they treat as required - simples!
OH, yes - WE, you and I, have paid for their training - so, it's only fair that they should work in the NHS for 5 years after their free training!!!

Who was it that re-negotiated doctors and dentists contracts and thereby encouraged the subsequent behaviour of many merely maximising their income within the framework of those contracts?
Clue......it wasn't Margaret Thatcher.

Dentists should get less than Doctors but then some Doctors get £250 k for working part-time.

Well I must be lucky. My dentist is very good and also honest about what needs to be done.
Must be to do with living in the South West. The hospital staff are beyond criticism too.

For an NHS dentist doing purely NHS work maybe. If they want to do private stuff on top e.g. cosmetic dentistry, or go completely private, sky's the limit as far as I'm concerned. Good luck to them for being enterprising individuals.
Thought you had to pay tuition fees at Uni now, is that not the case for dentistry?
Anyway if you don't like it don't go. Haven't been for years though unfortunately I feel I may have to cross one of their palms with silver soon as a filling fell out and it's a bit painful at times

Dental surgeon is the job title, and the person is a dentist, but they are also companies in their own right.
Out of what they earn, they have to pay for their premesis, staff, afilliations, tools, insurance and the list goes on. With that in mind, would you still say £75k is still acceptable?
I was brought up around this industry, my father, late uncle and cousin are / were dentists. Dad was NHS (with private as well) before retiring, uncle and cousin were / are private.
Knowing my fathers figures, your out by quite a few thousand.

I have always been for 6 monthly check ups. Under the NHS needed maybe a filling a year at £40. Now under private care I pay £13 / month and that gets me 'free' checkups and 10% off any other treatment. Wowee! That's about £200 / year.
Still its a job that I wouldn't do, even for £75k pa.

Some do seem to be rip-off merchants, my last one was very expensive, turned up late twice to my appointments, rushed and just seemed more interested in emptying my wallet than treating me, current one is much better.

Well, my experience is that the DenPlan commissions the Dentists rake in gives them a base Income which enables them to only work 3 days a week - they are, in actual fact, middlemen for the Insurance Company .......... that's all.

Blame all the lazy asses who wont go to work and pay they way, blame immigration and all the illegals here claiming money.
Or simply, vote for a party that will give you what you want and not a main-stream party. Brits are good at complaining but **** at doing anything about it. Hence we get ripped off royally in every aspect of our lives.

BTW your "syntax" renders your post pretty much incomprehensible - mind you, that could be just down to the fact that you are a fool.
I guess you will be railing against the education system next.

Reading between the lines I think PSL might be right about Denplan in that they make money by being an unecessary middleman between you and the dentist in respect of non-NHS treatment.
......blimey, agreeing with PSL
