Same **** - different government
Yet another way to bleled money out of the motorist
On the spot fines for careless drivers
Of course the police always get it right in their judgement so there is nothing to worry about.

Any way, it's mostly done by cameras around here
I must agree though, it also struck me as a bit New Labour deja-vu.

It's ok for black and white stuff, speeding, no seatbelt, bald tyres and what have you but as for anything that's subjective, dangerous driving, tailgating etc no, just NO! It's so not the right thing to do! Coppers already think they ARE the law, this will get abused no end 'to make an example'.
Besides which, if you are being tailgated or undercut, you're probably going too slow in the wrong lane, and imho should be looking at a bollocking yourself!

I can see it now. Motorists pulling a pile of bank notes out of their pocket, thrusting them at plod and getting nicked for attempting to bribe a police officer.

Just another way to appropriate money from the British citizen and one step close to a police state. They're going to be making an arbitrary decision at the roadside which in many cases wouldn't get anywhere in court. They need the revenue to pay off their debts though, so it's ok.

I've given my opinion on the matter you can accept that or not , frankly I don't care what you do with it.

"We're going to crack down on the most reckless and dangerous drivers, we're going to support those who are basically law-abiding but who perhaps have an occasional lapse."
[cynical head] Hmmmn, I wonder if that will really be the case - esp. if there is a quota or target to reach... [/cynical head]
"But the Institute of Advanced Motorists said on-the-spot fines were not necessarily the right approach for careless driving because, unlike speeding, cases were often not clear-cut."
Exactly (see previous post for an example).

I'm all for this. Fine the bad drivers rather than those creeping over the speed limit.

Good. A careless driver can drive within the speed limit, therefore never being classed as a criminal. Yet they can swerve all over the road, pull out in front of traffic, and tail gate. All within the speed limit.

Just more hollow words to appease the masses.
I was in my local Tesco car park yesterday parked next to a van with front tyres like a set of slicks.I reckon any plod could walk around that car park once a day & nick about 10 people for defects or no tax/insurance/mot every day of the week! Thats if they could be bothered.
The only traffic police I have seen around here are when they set up a camera on a short local stretch of dual carriageway then they have the van, 2 cars & a bike sitting there for hours.Funnily enough it's right outside the local cafe.

i do regular long drives (170 miles each way) and consistently encounter dip****s who tailgate me because they want to make progress and it's blatantly obvious that i'm also waiting for the 20 cars in front to disperse.
Also the number of people who can't wait and just under take and, when they encounter the slower cars in the middle lane, then slot into my/whoever's safe margin space.
If any thing will dissuade these dangerous drivers, i'm all for it.

My point being made if you drive around cutting people up and drive on someone's back bumper you deserve it.
It pisses me of when people do it when I've got my 6 month old in the back and they are right on my bumper.
6 points on my license would say your assumption was wrong about being a cautious driver.

Who said I was bragging?
Yes I got caught speeding one a sp10 and one a sp30. I took the punishment didn't bitch and moan about it I knew the consequences.
Why shouldn't people who tailgate and undercut people get the same treatment
