Default "Bitter", alledgedly it's a kind of beer !

Me and J4ckos mate went out for a few beers and a curry last night and as a protest in the recently refurbished and price hiked boozer he decided we would drink this stuff called "bitter", I suppose ordering a pint of "Bitter" is quicker than saying "a Pint of foul brackish water please", two pints in and he was back on Lager, took me one pint to decide its pure filth in a glass and should be left for those with no sense of taste.

Now I don't mind some ales but standard pub Bitter, Tetley's, Stone's and the like is just vile.

I'm not a bitter fan but have drunk it on occasion. From what I can gather, it really suffers if it's not kept properly, by a publican who knows his job - unlike lager, which is the same fizzy crap no matter what you do - a monkey could keep and serve it, and often do.

That said, anyone who could drink bitter with a curry deserves all they get.

I'm a Guinness drinker.

I like darker beers, porters, stouts, milds. But I'm not averse to drinking lager or cider if the occasion suggests it.

Recently, I've had Brothers Festival Pear Cider. Also supped some Mr Whitehead's Rum Cask Cider. Both are 7% but drink more like about 5%.

Recent ale take outs have been Hogs Back HBB and Rebellion Zebedee. The Zebedee's a little light more my normal taste but it seems to hit the sport.

I should probably remember what I drank in the Farnham Beer festival the other week ...

My personal faves are almost anything by a smallish scottish brewery called Brewdog-not the cheapest but by far the best beers and lagers available today http://www.brewdog.com/
cheers richie

I think a real pub should be serving bitter - this is what ill be drinking

you should get your lager and other fizzy pop ,tea and coffee at a cafe / meeting place

I'd kill for a pint of Youngs Special, or Fullers ESB or even courage Directors . All southern brews , but would pitch against any bitter in the land

I always used to drink bitter until I have had to stop drinking beer since it does not agree with me now. Used to taste alright but maybe it has changed now.

I have family connections with Theakstons & Black Sheep but our local serves Wye Valley - very good.
Although went for a curry last night & the Cobra was perfect!
