Less than £3 k,
3 door but can get a 5,
Hatchback,
Fits two adults and two children in suprisingly well.
Insurance is cheap for me, full no claims abd it's a 1.4 so just about fast enough for what I need.
Try piston heads, I have bought and sold every car I have owned on there

And even though we all know an older VW is still a good motor, but even with a few extra miles on the clock, the rest of the car has also done all the miles. Taking into consideration the wear and tear, older and cheaper is not always the answer. Unless it's been serviced exactly as it should have been, sometimes you can snap up a bargain if you are very lucky.
I went to look at a black Fabia Vrs 04 plate for £3400! I knew it was too good to be true, but it was en route to a few other cars.
It turned out that it had full Skoda history up until the lad bought it 18 months ago. Since he had he said he couldn't afford to service it, at all. Not even checked the oil!!
The drivers side seat was all ripped and there was *** burns here and there. Not to mention the fact it looked as though he washed it with
a Brillo pad, and bounced a tennis ball off it a few times for good measure!
Nedless to say, it was too good to be true.
The best thing to do is just think what you need the car for. If it's short trips to the school/supermarket/Julies house for a coffee... Then a deisel just isn't going to be economical, and unless you are going to be doing and major miles on anything more than your local 30mph roads, then anything bigger than a 1.4 or a 1.6 just isn't needed.
Now there's me with my sensible hat on
I will now continue looking for a donor 'busa' engine for my new toy!!!

Was thinking Focus for us too.Family of four, two adults, two 5 year olds, need a reasonable boot
Government has done a grand job of deciding that we can't afford to tax insure or fill up our car, part in the name of greenness so need to change too
Sorry.Bit OT

i know people will absolutely slate me for this but here goes, my missus reckons the best car she had that was brilliant for a "mum" was a citroen picasso! nice driving position, plenty of space in back plus easy folding seat system if needed, cheap to run, insure, fix, (never needed fixing except the once which was all down to her zero maintenance checks) and tax. economical as well, she had the 1.6 petrol! car unfortunately was stolen and since she has had a , vw polo bluemotion- no good for short journeys, dpf filter clogged 5 times in a year, citroen c4- not bad in her opinion but not a patch on the picasso, and currently a fiat punto grande which is ok but not as much of an all rounder as with the picasso. check them out and get in one, ps, try to get one with the drivers arm rest for extra comfort............. flame suit on....... this is for the missus after all. lol

I suppose a Picasso is ok if you have 3+ kids, otherwise, what do you need all that space for?
Surely it's pretty pointless lugging around a huge vehicle that's not needed??

We had a Citroen picasso......... a bit OTT for an adult and 2 baby seats IMHO.
ours was abused to the hilt with vomit, urine and multiple visits to McDonalds

To be honest my favourite car so far that I have owned while having two children was a VW Bora.
It was a PD130 a d it was a cracking car.
At the time my two were a newborn and N almost two year old. I managed to fit a double buggy (phil&ted) in the boot AND the shopping!
I wanted to have one again when I sold tbe scoob, but as we have a bigger car for weekend use, I thought I would make the most of being able to have a smaller car.
For me it was always going to be a VW
I have owned/driven a ford fiesta, a pug 306, a VW Bors, a lotus elise, a ford mondeo, a leon fr, a ford focus, a Subaru, a Volvo s40 R, and now a VW lupo.
Out of all those cars my top fav is the leon, followed by the bora, then the scoob. As for a family car, the Bora would win for me.

Possibly not, but if it's a second car, it's a big car to be fueling if it's not needed.
I had the pleasure of using Mr Ps mondeo estate for his time at select.
Great car to drive, suprisingly shifty considering it was 2.0 petrol with a full boot of tools, but still, I wouldn't choose such a big car for everyday use.
