Default CCTV

Anyone know or recommend something for the following.

I need a DIY CCTV system that has 4 cameras all to be located in a retail shop.

I would like to be able to view the footage via the Internet (i.e. sign in and see the 'live' feeds) and also automatically record the footage and keep for so may days locally.

The system must be robust and relaible and the picture of a good enough quality to really see what is happening (no low res grainy stuff). Don't mind a slower frame rate if the pic quaity is good.

Any ideas on what I could use and costs?

The wifes salon has a 4 camera CCTV system. It can be internet linked so you can watch the cameras from home.

Sadly, can't help you as we didn't get a manual and can't work the f*cker out

I.would.say.from.experience don't get a system which only takes.a.pic every.second or every 2 seconds or.similar. you need continuous recording as a lot can happen in the time gaps. Opt for colour too.

Yeah I juts meant I don't mind going to a lower video frame rate, not to a picture capture system as like you say you can miss things.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Will have a look at Costco and drop StickyMickey a line. Thx.

Cheers and good point re. the police.

The system will only be used inside the shop which is in a shopping centre so only really needs to operate in normal light.

In terms of the system being used in court, pretty much any system can be used, the weight of the evidence will of course come back to quality.

Only thing I would say is make sure the video records date and time, and make sure it's kept accurate as well, the ammount I have seen with the dates and times completely wrong is incredible, usually as the owners have no idea how t use the system

I too am looking for something that is accessible by the internet on your mobile phone. So far we have tried a couple of AverMedia systems. All I can say is that in my own personal experience, these things are a nightmare. They never were easy to use, total nightmare to setup, and broke really quickly. Oh, and they were expensive.

So, I am open to suggestions, although I do have a preference for none eBay items.

Can I ask about this too? But for home use?

My neighbours have an identical house to mine and they have recently erected serious gates, voice entry system and 'Proper' looking CCTV right around their house!

I am concerned at what they are so scared of!

If anyone is using a system at home, with a separate DVR device, which can identify faces, that would be ideal.

Or failing that a good supplier for these things.

TIA.

LOL! I suppose I asked for that!

The gates they actually put up before we moved in last year, they are the big solid electric ones, with voice and camera entry and so on.

The CCTV looks really impressive. Proper cameras. I should take a piccy. Theirs is a nice house, but it's not the nicest on our road, by a long way.

However, there are also some very impressive gates further down too!!

Did you have a specific need for that? Home? Workplace?

Thanks.

Pretty standard requirements I thought, for home or workplace:
  • Good quality picture - previous system we had was useless at seeing number plates (thief arrived, we could not tell the plate)
  • Night vision for the cameras
  • Access to the system via mobile phone
  • Easy setup
  • Reliable operation
I think that is it really.

Do you think what I have linked is overspeced?

No, I think it looks right. Four cameras is tempting, but then you may need the 1TB option.

Am not sure what they mean by a cheargeable Internet option?

I have a card from Geovision in a PC - bought the cameras seperately so you can spec the res / low light etc. that you want.

Geovision records to the computer hard drive - you can set to record all the time or on detecting movement.

Can be viewed remotely including on my iPhone

I'm very pleased with it.

No, I too am unsure about the chargeable internet option.

I was hoping to try and find some reviews for the actual unit, but its really hard to find any cctv system reviews

You don't happen to have a specific link to where you bought it from do you?

I have to assume it is if you don't have an existing internet connection and that they can do that for you too.

Reviews would be useful, indeed.

This does sound like a good system though, based upon the blurb. Cost wise, if it saves you from getting fuel stolen from your car, or even being burgled, then a small price to pay I think.

Asif

I now use this company on Ebay.. been very pleased with their service

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/cctv_quality/...id=p4340.l2562

good prices too.

I have a 4 camera system.

REMEMBER!!

with CCTV...
if you get a
3.6mm lens.... that gives you a WIDE angle picture
9mm lens gives you more distance.. but not close up pictures like a 3.6mm lens does.

If your wanting to cover door ways or in fron of garage (like I do) go 3.6mm

How clear is the piture????
the larger the tvl the clearer your picture quality!

don't go less than 420TVL.
480 is better... 520 very very good.

This is good value... 3.6mm 420TVL
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Colour-Day-Nig...item4aa11fe729

but doesn't come with a power adaptor (you can get these about £6)

6mm lens and 480TVL incl Power supply
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-3-Sony-CCD-D...item3354d26677

take a look at a few more to see what suits you.
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Eazy-Securi...fsub=702517010

the more Inferreds you have the better it will be at night too

As I said, the company is very good, only had to send one camera back and it was replaced straight away and they emailed and rang me to make sure everything was ok.

also check out their Hard Drive recoders too.

BTW.. its all easy to fit/wire up. Main thing is to have somewhere to plug all the power upply plugs in. Each camera needs a power supply.. unless you use a multi cable that one power supply feeds all the cameras.. make sure the adaptor is powerful enough to do all the cameras if you go that route.
