Default Stole our number plates in broad daylight!

Get home and wife tells me a load of lads pulled up outside her mothers house where she was visiting, got out the car, nicked the bleeding plates and sped off!

Police have given her a 'crime number' joy....just annoys me that we are going to have loads of criminal crap through our door.Secondly if I remember its a PITA to get a new plate (does my wife have to go as she owns the car???) and thirdly the police have told her it is currently illegal to drive so she has had to have a lift back from her mothers!!

Other cars plate was taken and given to police...might post it on here but probably nicked too!

Don't know why,you just end up feeling like the criminal in this

Bilking most likely. But as you've informed fuzz, you shouldn't get any hassle.

My mum's car was cloned and once plod knew about it, they put all offences down to the other vehicle.

Beware of companies selling number plates on-line. I'm fairly certain it was one of them that stole my card details.

I had mine stolen a few months ago

had to go to halfrauds to get new ones that day, so paid waaay to much

Kept the crime number in the car, as i knew i'd get pulled

a week later - i got pulled by the rozzers, produced the crime number,

they told me that the plates had been used in a drive off at a petrol station

GREAT

Yep, was about to say the plates will be used to do a drive-off at a petrol station.

With fuel prices so high, it's in the region of £100 a tank in an average family saloon now so this will get more and more common no doubt.

Looks like we can expect more and more brazen acts in the future now that the presence of the police is so rarely seen on the streets these days and also that penalties if any are so light.

Big worry I think.

Successive governments have been warned about the possible break down in law and order, are we now seeing it, since they have ignored the warnings?

But surely the cctv cams in the garages will capture the faces off these chancers ???

The camera's read the number-plates and black-list cars which do 'drive-off's' - trying to identify people from cctv images would require a lot of resources from the police, and likely wouldn't be seen to be worth it.

In Notts we were told around last June/July we would not investigate these fuel bilking incidents anymore.

Most of the time the images were of a terrible quality.

So in effect its a crime they will easily get away with and on the remote chance they get caught will be given a warning not to do it again !! sounds about right for britain !!!!

MOT stations have been told to concentrate on illegal plates, that includes those bought on line with no supplier and post code on them.

Wife told by police they have actually caught the.I'm amazed!

And yes,it was trying to steal petrol from a garage in wales(plates stolen in walsall)

Even if they'd got home without getting caught I presume it would have cost them whatever they had filled up

Even witnessed this at my local Tesco's, more than once too.

I didn't get the impression that Tesco's were overly concerned.

What needs to happen is to get people to pay for their gas beforehand, simple as that.

Much more hassle for them to steal gas out of peoples' cars, IMO.
