Had a client nearly send an engine off to them.
It was a Audi A4 2.5 v6 Tdi that had a cambelt tensioner fail, which in turn bent the valves and spun the sprokets on the camshafts (knackering the cams). This is an expensive job just because of the parts prices (the camshafts alone are extortionate).
Well they gave him a flat quote of £1k to rebuild the entire engine (including collection and delivery which is a few hundred quid in itself due to the distance invovled). Alarm bells rung as there is no way on earth you can rebuild a Audi v6 TDi for a grand unless using a doner engine for parts (which are rare as there are so many variations between years, its like a needle in a haystack), let alone just rebuild the cylinder heads. So I googled the company name and phone number...Yup. It was this bunch, same area and threads on forums from customers telling personal tales of woe.
I printed it out and gave it to him...he then cancelled the card payment sharpish (he had to pay in adavance)! Lucky escape!
