But inflation is only 4% ... yeah right!

Maybe the government should have a look at regulating the insurance companies.... oh but that would be helping the motorist and they gave us a penny off fuel duty in the budget so they have already done that.

34% average.... many companies () are a lot less than that

Your location is probably the reason it's so high

I've heard a number of rumours about the reasons for insurance hikes:-

1) Increase in injury claims

2) Comparison website competition has brought margins to their limits and it's time to recoup

3) Insurers invest the premiums they receive in order to provide for payouts, insurers have also been clobbered by investment losses

Any one or all three could be to blame. Personally I think there is a bit of truth in all of the above. What I don't believe is that the insurers really give a monkeys - they just up the premiums to compensate. If they were really being squeezed that badly the reforms would have happened years ago.

How hard can it be to tighten up doctors reports? Lets face it, if the doctors said no injury, none of this would happen.

It went through - same for life assurance too I believe and same for annuities I think too.

F*cking stupid to decide something that is based on statistics to be "anti-wimmins"

Some retarded Belgium feminists have shafted the rest of the woman drivers in the EU by having their insurance raised to that of men.

Bit of an own goal IMO.

My BMW 330d is up for renewal soon, and most companies are charging around £400 - up by about a third from a couple of years ago. I can understand that from the reasons above.

What I don't understand at all, though, is why the premium goes up considerably if I DON'T include my wife as a named driver. What's going on there? I have maximum NCB and we both have clean licenses which we've held for ages.

PI has always happened, but normally it was when people were generally injured.

Now you have some of these no-win-no-fee companies encouraging everyone to claim, wether they are injured or not.

There were 400,000 whiplash claims alone last year.

I Live in a very Cheshire, rich area and it's f*cking stupid for insurance. I can only assume that all the Scallies from both Manchester and Liverpool travel here, then nick X5s Range Rover Sports and Bentleys pushing up my premium.

Saying that, just over 3 years ago, the b@stards nicked my Skoda and the wife's A3 after burgling the house. Got them both back though and still have both cars! The scum served time as well (2 years as I remember ).

I guess that shows that rich doesn't always equal safe! I live as dpb suggests, in the middle of nowhere. Quite a desirable place to stay, I guess, but nothing ostentatious. I'll not tempt fate by saying much more, but needless to say vehicle thefts are pretty much unheard of! Doesn't mean we're not prepared though.

That's unreal getting away with the two cars. At least you got them back though, and the tw@ts behind bars where they belong.
