its probably birds, they do nest in attics as they can get through small gaps between the roof and guttering.
unlikely to be rats, and it wont chew your face off, have a look and go from there,if it was a rat/s then you need to get pest control to knock it on the head otherwise breeding could be a scary result.
its most likely to be birds/mice. have a look scardey cat!

Looked on their site and will come out weekdays normal hours and charge me about £65 just to check. Gonna send the mr up when he gets back tomorrow. If it comes down before he's back I'm setting the cats on it.

Could be a squirrel. If you do venture in to the unknown. Best to make loads of noise before you go through the hatch. LOL

Do not put out poison, because they will die up there, and stink your house.

What would you do if it's Papa Lazarou and then he claims you as a Wiiiiiiife?

Get it checked out madame or it could get worse whatever it is. Is it only a certain times of the day or have you just noticed?

Talking

It will probably be mice or rats
Poisen will work but then they crawl i to a dark corner to die and as pointed out will stink when they are dead ,not nice

A couple of mice or rat traps
Make sure you tie them to a rafter as catch a big rat in one and I've seen a rat drag the trap back to their nest with them if you catch their leg and not round their neck

Don't bother with the humane tubes as all the other rats, mice will watch their mate stuck in a tube and remember it's a trap for next Time

Birds well you need to find the nest first then you are stuck for 6 months to the chicks hatch out then get fed and learn to fly ,trouble is they will come back every year like my two nesting stations at NBO hqs unless you find how they get in there

Could also be a big scary spider ,but they only live 6weeks but by then they will have hundreds of babies

Unlikey to be frogs although I have 2 that have ventured from the pond and seem to like the drainpipe next to the shed and you can hear them croaking at night as they Mate .

Hi ,
I will add my bit if it helps?
Have you seen any droppings in the loft. Rats or Mice will leave them almost anywhere they are, so could give you an indication of what is in your loft.
I have had Mice and once Rats in the loft, and always leave traps set, just in case.
The rats took 2 pots of bait in one night, and had the exterminator 2 days later , His thoughts was the posion would be enough to finish the rats off, which was correct.
However, I had a Blue Bottle issue once the rat had died , not nice , but at least no Rats . A small price to pay I think ?
If its Mice , get some traps and use peanut butter , or chocolate. And hear the snap of the traps if you are lucky!

Hope this helps , but get the problem sorted A.S.A.P. Mice can knore through cables which then can cause fires . Not a common issue but has happened.

Paul.

Had a scratching sound in our new house, turned out to be a wasp nest in the roof.
