Default Can anyone help - School Appeals

We recently moved to loughton, and liked a local primary school 0.8 miles away. The school is really nice, and so are the teachers / head teacher, and other pupils.

My Son attended pre-school at the school and is due to start full time in September as he is now 4 years old.

My wife currently walks our son to school with our 2 year old daughter. She is also pregnant expecting our 3rd child.

We submitted the application forums and he got rejected for his first, and second choices and was given his third.

3rd school is 1.5 miles from home, and there is no way my wife will be able to walk to school with 3 children daily.

We want to appeal, however unsure what the process is. We have been told my son is 3rd on the waiting list..?the head teacher has said appeal is a key stage one apeal and will only be looked into if they have made an error and we will need to prove this??

I have checked the recent ofsted report of the 3rd choice and it introduction to the school is the number of students with emotional or behavioural issues is above average.

Any thoughts?

My Father used to deal with appeals for schools. I will ask him and forward you what he says.

My wife says to accept third, but make it clear you will appeal.

Otherwise, if the appeal fails, you could end up with fourth, fifth etc place.

She also says that if the school has said they can only change if they have made a mistake, you are on a loser.

Thanks guy, jammi I will call tomorrow.

I think the 3rd place is accepted automatically..as we only have rejection forums - I will need to check this with my wife.

Alcazar - headteacher was really nice, she said something along the lines your appeal will only be accepted if there was a fault with the application forum or the part that decides has made a mistake.

The headteacher did not know why he dis not get the place as he is in Pre-school there already..and that people from further then us got a place ( though this maybe as a brother / sister may already be there)

Well, today my son moved from 3rd place in the waiting list to 4th!

We are on a distance waiting list (only 0.5 miles from the school), however there is another waiting list that take more priority.

A new family has moved in that has a sibling in the school however this is not measured on distance!

The appeal date is this Thursday, and it’s not looking very good!

This is exactly why when ours were starting school the first, second and third choice were all the same! Don't give them the opportunity to not let you have first choice. There were so many trying to attend our local Primary that were using grandparents addresses it was unreal.....

My niece applied for school before she turned 1 and she's been accepted. It pays to sort these things out early. I hope you sort it out.

Yeah, it's the same now as we've just done it. Unless it's deifferent in some areas or just a pre-agreement with the school.

I applied when my son was about two. When I enquirer about his start date for nursery (pre school) after his third birthday they told me he didn't have a file at the school because he wasn't three and they don't start a file until they can actually attend.

Anyway, it makes no difference how soon you apply for a place, they all have to go through the same channels anyway.

i think the channels are in order of

children with special needs
siblings already attending
distance
other

i am also pretty sure we were told to wait till a certain time as we did want to apply when he started pre-scholl but it was not possible..Essex county!

I spoke to the school admisions yesterday, they again sent out letters to all parents that got a place to ask to accept or reject there places..as no one has bothered replying..all replies will be looked into today.

if still parents failed to reply, they will be getting a call to confimr or reject there places..
