Default Blackberry as a workphone question

Right much to my disgust I've got to have blackberry at work.

Can they monitor if I use blackberry messenger? We use emails all day for surveys and such so the Internet will always be in use.

Some of this depends if you have a BIS or BES device.

...and I'm talking about a BES device below:

It's not easy to do, so I'd guess not.

They can disable it though. Internet will be monitored as this goes via your business proxy servers.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

BBM messages can be monitored in a number of ways... depends on how serious your company is about data leakage/reputational damage/security

Its possible to monitor it but very unlikely they will. Depends on the company though.

The guy who runs all our mobile infrastructure does indeed have an company Iphone 4.

But thats for mainly personal use, he still has a BB Curve for work as the Iphone 4 just isn't
as good for the email and calendar integration, better in every other way but not better in every way, there is a reason they still make them.

The iphone is a great toy imo. And thats what it is.. a toy!
Blackberry's are designed purely for work use and there is nothing that can come close to it for large companies.

It all depends on the infrastructure they choose to put behind it. There is next to nothing on the police issued blackberry that is not logged. I doubt your firm will be that strict, but Notts Police can't afford another murder which it leaked the victim's location to the murderers.

Let's not make this into a iPhone versus blackberry thread.

I'd imagine they don't monitor it a lot as they're not the strictest of
Companies.

In the contract it just forbids text and phone calls none work related.

I'll suppose I'll find out eventually

That sounds like its just a money saving thing. BBM is free so I really don't see them caring or even noticing!

It depends if Ant is spending all day talking to fat girls he's picked up on Plenty Of Fish. My mate does that, but luckily his Blackberry is his own private phone.

My work phone is a BB and I'm on my 3rd Bold 9700 since August/September

Same fault both times, and on the second it also had the idea to just pick at random a name out of my contacts list to display when someone called

This also happened on the bosses phone.

Just to be fair, my iPhone 3gs and various friends iPhone 4's are all dropping signals randomly and 'call failed' when full signal! All from the the last update.

I always prefer to use my own input device. The shape of the curve just doesn't do it for her.
