AFAIK there are two sorts of registered Radiographers... (D) where the D is for diagnostic and (T) where the T is for Therapy. The first take radiographs and the second operate radiotherapy machines to treat things like cancers.

It's a very vocational degree.........there's not really another job you can do with it.
Having said that there should be a job at the end of it as the reduction in NHS spending *should* have the smallest effect on the "killer" services (Cancer, heart disease, mental health). In my game they are trying to shrink units and even close the one in Leicester.
I'm not up on Agenda For Change bands for Radiographers but I think a mid-scale Radiographer would be on about £35k, not sure if that would be a big change in salary for you?
Captain John will have more info than me

Ye NHS wont be targeted as much even though recently they want to reomve 250,000 medical staff .
The demand for Radiographers is high IMO plus its something i would actually enjoy as i go to the Radiology department often to service PC's etc. £35k would defo be a treat . In London its more 35-40k starting with annual increments for sure if still working for the NHS.

I was engaged to a Radiographer at the London Hospital in Whitechapel, I knew quite a few there and they seemed to get quite a lot of job satisfaction. She didn't actually work with X-Rays but used the LINAC (Electrons) and Cobalt 60 machines.
As you say there would more than likely be a good chance of a job even in the present climate, especially here in Cumbria wher recruiting is a problem. I was the only person who applied for my job whereas in London at least 10 would apply for each job that came up LOL

OK...........I should have been more specific and said "Consultant in Dental Radiology" LOL
Just checked on a couple of Consultant Radiologists who I trained with (Dentists) and one of them is a Professor........ I knew I should have stuck at it LOL
Yep, I work with a few people who are "Dual Qualified".

Looks like i need to get my school bag out . When a job is going in London specially in IT then its like throwing a chunk of meat at a 100 sharks.
Engaged to a Radiographer shame it did not go ahead or you would be running some serious power in your Scoob . Only messing.
On a serious note i have been thinking about this career for a while but the only off putting side is 3 years at school man.

AFAIK from what I remember from the training it's quite vocational as well as learning the "x-rays come from inner electron shell transitions", Bremmstrahlung and stociastic effects there is a significant practical element......... As such the NHS recognises you treat patients and can act as a free pair of hands so Bursaries are available.
However I might be completely wrong.
You could also do a bit if IT on the side

I am pretty sure regarding the bursay but then again you never know as rules change like socks.
Abit of IT on the side . Ye a few PJ's would be nice. Never the less once you become a Radiographer there is no need for being a Del boy
