Masters Golf...
Does anyone actual give a to$$ about Golf? The way the media saturates the coverage you would think it's the national sport.
Neither I nor my mates give a **** or play Golf.
So if you extrapolate that to the population as a whole nobody plays golf or cares about it.

Great game, requires huge athleticism and dedication to get to the level the professionals are at. I agree with comments about the sniffy "golf club" mentality, but in my experience this has improved a lot over the last 10 years or so.

Have you ever 'observed' patrons and staff alike of golf shops or Pro Shops? They really do think they are something else. And they're just so into that equally 'special' attire aren't they? It's highly amusing/sad.
The whole golf scene is something I just don't 'get' (and wouldn't want to).

Is that why it's not been on bbc2?
I love watching the masters, couldn't wait for it thursday. Searched through listings and no sign of it. They put a special taster program up wednesday and then it's not on thursday
As for the OP, there's not enough about it IMO. One of the most skilled sports out there, the top players are amazing.
I was at the british open many years back and it's something else watching top pros

Don't really see what your problem is with it being on TV?
I only took golf up nearly a year ago and love it. I don't get why some are some up themselves, but i couldn't care less about them. I'll soon tell them where to go, if they give me jip.

I guess it's just the whole faux-reverence crap like you get with Tennis also. It's all so serious and up it's own ****.

I think I preferred it when you were being chased around the desert by black bum bandits.

A good walk ruined is it not.
Some do seem to get obsessed by it as well. The golf course near me, ive seen them walking up the drive to play at 7.00am in feb when its still not properly light and even in the pissing down rain- thats just weird.

It's not the game that irritates me it's the whole smug, self-regarding culture of it. I guess it's because of the way it used to (and is a bit) about the 'club' and thus social status, money etc.

I play golf, I love it, some people play cricket and rugby, total waste of time in my opinion but thats their decision.
I am an average bloke with a wife and three kids, golf has replaced football since I stopped playing in 06. To me watching sport on tv is ten times better than the drivvel that is eastenders, coronation street etc.
Golf used to be the ponces and eejits who thought it made them something. These days it appeals to a much broader crowd and those that think they are something pretty much get berated these days. Things have changed a lot.

I love watching the big golf tournaments on TV.
Its the volume of ********* you come across in golf clubs/shops that really turns me off the sport, so many stuck up their own ****ing ****.
Still a great sport though.

I visit 'pay and play' courses, there's none of the attitude there, just full of crap golfers enjoying the sun together

never really played it -- but love watching/listening to it - part of the appeal is the commentary
but the skill and focus of the top players is amazing
all in all a very soporific package

My crew used to play it for a "laugh and tear up" experience when we went to the USA on duty. All USAF stations seem to have a golf course with cheap green fees and club hire.
It was good fun even though we were not very good at it.
I very much enjoy watching the Masters, especially in HD now. Its a beautiful course and I find the golf fascinating to watch since I realise it is not that easy to be any good at.
Even if I was not interested I would not be inclined to denigrate the game or belittle those who play it. Pointless exercise!
