UK, rip off and dissapointment !
Spent a week in a Holiday Inn in Atlanta and am now in one in Brighton, what a Juxtaposition...
USA, wifi is free, UK its only free if you buy a drink for 2 hrs, otherwise £10 ! a day.
Beer, pint of flat lager, a bit warm, £4 something, in the Atlanta one, free from 5.30 until seven, then $2 a beer, gassy and cold, but better than the UK version, plus the barmaid alwasy spotted you were empty and lined another one up in the States, UK, had to wait 5 minutes as was like the Marie Celeste.
Food, USA, cheap, better than expect, UK, Expensive and generally not as good as you would expect.
Room, similar but half the size.
Door lock, USA, worked, UK, have to take Ukrainian girl called Magda with me until Housekeeping can fix it tomorrow.
Room rate, Atlanta $72, UK £128, ok Brighton is more desirable than the suburbs of Atlanta but not two and a bit times (including exchange rate) better.
We get the p1ss taken over here.

I have a distinct feeling I stopped in the same Holiday Inn in Atlanta; can't remember, it may have been a Days Inn. All I know it was about 5 mins walk from the Hard Rock Cafe and had a Wendy's next to it (Think of Wimpy, but worse). Highlight of the stop-over was being pestered by a tramp who claimed he had run out of fuel and was begging for 'gas money' whilst waiting for the tour bus. I guess its a bit nicer now...I never had chance to partake in the beers, as being below 21 the bar tender would have a seizure if I even strayed within 20ft of the bar...this was 14 years ago, afterall.

What makes me laugh is when you make an observation about the comparisons between... well just about anywhere... and the UK and how we are often ripped off and have just about the worst customer service in the world there are always people trying to defend the UK.
That is the problem as until we accept we are expensive and utterly useless as regards customer service we aren't going to change.
Personaly I cannot wait for the Olympics as London is about twice as expensive as anywhere else already (and the greedy robbing ***** will put prices up even more for the Games) and I am yet to find a hotel there where anything approaching what an American might call customer service exists. Should make for some fun tales
