We lived out in Brunei for 11 years and that collection is just a small indication of what waste and wealth they have.

Every birthday the family would drive down the one road they had and every member of the family would have a different coloured Rolls Royce

When money is just not an issue, as you have billions, what do you want then?

And remember it's not just the Sultan, or his brother we're talking about, many of the global industrialists, international banking families etc they to have billions, and are born into it

Well what do go for...?

You go for power, and just how much power can you imagine

Kinda puts our few hundred BHP in a new light

When we were out there we were told that he bought a new car every year just for the hell of it.

The domes on his palaces are covered in gold sheet!

They are indeed Leslie. Went and had a personal tour of his palace II once. I say Mk II because he built another palace big enough to sleep 500 people but never used it

The money they used to spend was amazing, beggars belief yet just outside the capital there are whole villages living in houses on stilts, crammed together in abject poverty. Still he treated his people to free healthcare and little or no taxes at the time.

I've worked on several jobs at Jerudong Park back in 91-95, and been up to one of the palaces where some of the cars are garaged. It takes some believing when you see it.

We were told that he built the second palace for his wife, whatever it was, as you say, it was a sinful waste of cash.
Apparently his father tried to persuade the Brit government to use our military to destroy those villages on stilts. It was refused though. I heard that he took good care of the people though.
