Ferries To Ireland
Hi All
I have booked a holiday to Ireland in the summer. We are catching the ferry from Fishguard and going to Rosslare. I have booked the Stena Express but am starting to think whether this was a good idea, as lots of people have since told me its nickname, "The Vommit Comet"
Has/does anyone use this ferry often. Would it be something you would recommend ???

Ha ha - you booked the vomit comet ha ha
I live in Haverfordwest which about 20 mins from Fishguard. If the weather is too bad they won't run the express. I've only ever been on it when its been good sailing - it feels like your flying - especially towards the front.
The weirdest thing is how they cram all the cars into the bowels of the ship.
When are you going? If you have time, I would spend some time in Pembrokeshire. When the weather is good its very nice round these parts and lots to do. If you have kids they'll not be bored.

I am thinking maybe I should rebook the big ship ??? I got 5 kids and the thought of them throwing up the whole time isn't that appealling

If you've got 5 kids, as I said, you'd do worse than not bother going over the water and staying Pembrokeshire. Plenty for the kids - Oakwood, Blue Lagoon, Folly Farm, Manor House Wildlife Park (that Ryder-Richardson bird owns it now, nice lady) The Dinosaur park (although personally I think its a bit ****)
Plus St Davids, Tenby, Saundersfoot, Porth Gain (although thats a BIG walk for a toddler )

Its only a short trip whereas the big ship takes a lot longer. Most of the time its like being on a big speedboat. Don't be a wuss and get on with it.
Done the trip many times (brother has a house in St David's) although as we normally head off to Kerry we normally go Swansea Cork as it's (9 hours) overnight and you don't waste any days of your holiday or a long drive on the other side. Heading over in August that way.
Now that can be a rough trip. Had a couple of full on Atlantic storms (Force 11) on that route in the winter many years ago. Never good for your mental health to see sailors kneeling and praying
Couldn't find any videos of those trips - but this one on youtube, although it was from the North Sea not the Irish Sea, was the closest I could find to what it was like - enjoy Sit your kids down in front of this as a test
