My council just 'fixed' a couple of the worse potholes down the lane to my Parents.
I spotted two council blokes shoveling tarmac into the hole, then using a spade to 'compact' said tarmac.
That was it, no seal or anything, no proper compaction.
May as well fill the holes with dirt.
The roads really are in a bad way.

The council did some pot holes up the road from us,and in there wisdom left a 7 inch hole 3 ft from where they finished but on a positive note someone got a cheap driveway .A garage i know reckon there lapping it up all they do is replace springs and wheels,so i guess every cloud has a silver lining

It was 13 years of neglect that caused the roads to be in the state that they are in now.
Did new labia even have a transport policy apart of course of introducing the M4 bus lane and London congestion charge.

I never knew the roads as good as they were under Labour .... everyone knows they were so much better than they are now under this shambolic government!!
I demand that they fix them ... we pay enough to drive on them!!

Lies more damn lies and further lies. Roads don't suddenly fall apart in less than a year. Its caused by years of neglect and poor quality control/materials on repairs and resurfacing.
I'm not complaining...its good for business; Over the past ten years suspension parts such as springs, shocks, ball joints, lower arms and bent wheels are all frequent items having to be replaced due to the state of our roads....on cars less than 3 years old!
I mean its quite common to get cars with broken coil springs now that are barely 3 years old......a broken spring was almost unheard of in cars under ten years old. But now, they are failing left right and centre. Two reasons; too much salt and too many potholes/speed bumps.

Yes we are all paying too much road tax but oh hand on the last lot put that up massively didnt they ? Not suggesting this new lot would not have done the same if they had thought about it / been in power at the time.
What % of the road tax actually goes back into road and repairing the current infrastructure, not very much I guess.
And everyone wonders why the number of 4x4 on the roads grows every year (not counting the last 2 bad winters had recently either)

They should get the utility and phones companies etc to pay for new roads, they helped wreck them by all the manic digging they have done the in the last decade. It's always cheap/dodgy repairs which is where the crumbling starts.

I have to agree, the roads down here in Kent are getting worse.
Although when I went to Essex two weeks ago, I came back thinking our roads were like silk compared to theirs. They were shocking.
The pot holes were so big, you could actually see a 'line' appearing on the road that everyone was taking to try and avoid them!

And it's utter poppycock to say roads don't fall apart in a few months!! A bad winter can cause havoc ... that's a few MONTHS!! No, we all know why they are in such a bad way ... they are not being maintained - and that's because there is no money to do so - and that's because this Government have cut funding to Councils who now have to choose between a Child Care place and a pot-hole!!!
The broken tarmac lies firmly at the foot of the Eton Boyz!!

Now clearly I could "blame" the local CC who are responsible for the roads, but it appears we're blaming the central government today so...
Thanks Con-Dem's for fixing roads New Labia didn't and thank you for gritting and fixing roads quicker than under the last government. Damn you for being worse than the last government!

And who's fault is that?

More damn lies. Freeze-thaw-freeze thaw.
Cracks in road deveolps in the road. One winter opens it, next winter opens it further, winter after that....pothole.
Crack has occured due to poor quality surfacing methods and materials, unstable hardcore, or utilities digging it up and not patching it porperly. Not to forget leaving a worn road surface for too long before fully resurfacing it.
The problem when a decayed road is resurfaced now, the hardcore has been damaged, so new surfaces will also fall into cracks, which will fall in to holes several winters later. A simple topping of tarmac will not fix it...which is unfortunately what most councils and highways authorities do.

You probably remember the days when the local councils took a pride in their roads and used to keep them in good repair. That way used to save money on monstrous repair bills after a long period.
Since NL took power, the councils have gradually stopped maintaining the roads saving the money which they should have spent on them for other nefarious purposes which never seemed to have done much for most of the people anyway. The roads have got progressively worse during that time.
We are now at the position where it is too expensive to repair the roads properly and all they will do is a bit of "patching" which will last for no sigificant time and not actually improve the roads anyway
Les

As Leslie said, the roads aren't going to get fixed properly for a significant period of time. We are still busy digging the banks & economy out of the shithole.
Road Tax isn't called road tax anymore, the reason being that it doesn't pay for the roads anymore. Its now "vehicle excise duty" meaning the money can be spent on anything, like paying for sex changes on the NHS because someone thinks they were born the wrong sex, instead of fixing the countries roads & improving the infrastructure.
Infact its utterly scandelous that the roads are so bad, dangerous too, while avoiding potholes you are not concentrating on the road as you would normally, so your situational awareness suffers.
Blaming the current govenment is poppycock, they aren't responsible, Labour let the roads get in the state they are by spending the money on a pointless war in the middle east instead of spending it at home.
The solution is easy.
1. Cut all foriegn aid
2. Tax smokers & drinkers more heavily
3. Stop paying for poncey stuff on the NHS
4. Get the f*ck out the middle east & let them deal with it themselves
3. Actually spend RFL on the roads
Job jobbed
*I accept that none of the above is going to happen, but its wishful thinking
** I also know that in reality I know little about the situation in Iraq/Afganistan, so pulling out now is probably a bad idea at this point in time - we've got them into this situation, I guess we need to clean up after ourselves - I fully support our armed forces, I just don't agree with the wars.
