Default Buying number plate

I'm looking at buying a non dating plate off a private seller on ebay.
The plate is on retention which looks the better way to buy 1 as opposed to buying 1 on a car?

1. If i buy this does the seller just write my details on the certificate saying i'm the nominee or does he have to send it to dvla for them to do?

2. When i get the certificate do i just send it with the V5, MOT, Insurance, copy of tax and £80 (for transfer) or do i have to pay an extra £25 (can't remember what for but that figure springs to mind)

I don't want to send my docs to the seller to pass on to dvla as i don't know them so would prefer to do it myself

Cheers

£25 is to put your details on the retention certificate. Its the DVLA's admin fee if you like. The £80 transfer fee will have already been paid by the seller when they put the mark on retention!

Get them to fill your details in on the retention cert, sign the sections required and post them to you. You can forward them on/take them to the DVLA.

Check the £25 for a nominee to be added isn't included in the sale price. You then won't pay a penny extra.

The 'updated' retention certificate will still go back to the sellers address until you become the grantee, which won't happen until he has sent you the retention certificate and you've put the plate on your vehicle.

Search for your nearest DVLA office and go, it is done quickly there and then.

If you visit your local DVLA office they will be very helpful and if you have fulfilled their requirements they will do the transfer on the spot.

Thanks for the help, just trying to get a cheap plate now

so to confirm - seller sends me retention docs, he should have written my details as nominee or does he fill in the nominee box and have to send it to dvla who then send it onto me after £25 has been paid?
