Default Catalytic Converters - Scrap Value

Got a few in the garage from various cars over the years.
Are they worth anything or shall I just bin them?

I took a couple up to the scrapyard a while back and got £80, I doubt the owners of the cars were to happy though.

Still worth scrapping, minimum of 20 quid a piece, but the highest at one point was 60 quid.

There is a guy on here that buys them, which I'm assuming is just for that reason.

Interesting though, I had the old man run in an Impreza cat downpipe and centre.
Despite Impreza's being able to pass emissions with just the downpipe, so you'd assume its better at doing tis job, the guy said it wasn't a proper cat, so it was less.

I have always thought that the centre box on a classic was just a resonator, not a cat, although some people on hear say otherwise.
It's the downpipe impreza cat that I have anyway.

Seriously though I took 3 up they cut them open to check the precious metals are still inside then handed over the cash, Strangely the one that had come off my subaru was empty so they only gave me £1.50 for the steel.

Car batteries are worth about a fiver each at the minute so if you have any of them kicking around it may be worth taking them up.

Damn I sound like a gypo

You still hear of them being nicked so I'd guess they must still have a good value.

There is a cat in the centre section on UK models. Unless its been PPP'd.

Just look through one and you can see the honeycomb.

No its a cat. What I'm saying is its worth more than the downpipe cat.

Its only a resonator on some versions. I had PPP from the factory on my MY00, that looked like a cat but was a resonator.

THey will also pass the emissions test with no cat in the downpipe and a free flow cat in the middle pipe to the backbox.

Check your local yellow pages for scrap metal merchants. Phone around to get the best price.

They must be worth something - a mate of mine is a car dealer and had 12 cut off the cars in his forecourt in one night.
