Baby swallowed a plum stone ..
My son just ate a plum under the "watchful" eyes of his mother .. and the stone too ..
Called Bupa (basically NHS direct) and they seemed to think it was fine, he laughed and said does he like his food then ..
I've read that the smallest part of the digestion system is at the opening to the stomach, so if he's not choking now, he's ok .. ?
any thoughts?
edit: hes about 21 months ..

You were fortunate that he didn't choke on it. My son swallowed a soft mint whole when he was about 2, started choking on it but luckily it melted small enough for him to swallow.

Ours used to love plums, we used a gauze thing they could suck the fruit through. My wife knows someone whose baby died after getting a grape stuck in its throat. It does happen.

Any round shaped food should be cut in half and that will take away most of the choking hazard. Our kids probably wont get an imperial mint until they leave home

I hope he is ok. Hopefully he will pass it, but the bad news is, you will have to check to make sure he does.

Pimmo - glad your little one is ok and didn't choke.
Nothing worse than having your child choke on you, my eldest did it twice when we was little - on the most innocuous food items. Managed to clear it both times but bloody hell, it doesn't half scare the **** out of you.

He seems find so I hope so ..
No, its a good question, have you read any of my threads about my chest ? the meds I'm on give me diarrhoea .. one baby was safely in his chair, the other in her arms. I left them in what I thought was a safe situation and if I hadn't the situation would have got very er .. messy ..

Sorry - but post from someone that obviously doesn't have 2 kids and a bit unfair imho.

Get well soon and I hope he passes the stone, soon. I don't relish the idea of looking for it though

I have two kids, thanks. Both grown up, so have been there
Sorry pimmo, I wasn't taking a pop at you. I just think some of the comments about your wife are a bit harsh. Looking after two kids isn't easy, and the gap isn't huge between them. Also, you being ill is going to make things even more difficult. If she was feeding the baby, and little one wanted some attention too, she probably didn't even think properly.

It's so easy for people to judge, but I bet everyone has been there at some point.
I remember my son, choking on a biscuit. My Mum was so shocked, she just looked at him. I picked him up, threw him over my lap and hit between his shoulders. Out it popped, thankfully. I promptly went to the kitchen and threw up.
