Default Tony Blair tells the truth at the Chilcot inquiry

Only kidding, more carefully scripted answers and arrogance.

"Mr Blair admits that the attorney general was not kept "absolutely in touch" with the discussions which led up to the agreement of UN resolution 1441 in November 2002". Classic Blair

We are in for another day of this kind of avoidance of the truth.

What was the point of his return, a waste of time and money

They did but I was busy

No one is in possession of the facts Martin because no one seems able to remember them and if they do they are distorting them for their own good !

Head on a spike on London Bridge should do it

For me this enquiry is a total waste of time.

People's views on the war are far too entrenched.

If the enquiry clears the government then it will be called a cover-up, if it nails the government it will be hailed as fair and just.

Therefore it is a complete waste of time

Mind you saying that, the truth is the truth no matter what you believe, let's hope Chilcott can convince people his report is an accurate reflection of events before, during and after the war in Iraq.

My view on whether we should have gone to Iraq or not is/was entrenched, I think we should have, it needed sorting out.

It was just done very very badly by men who were thinking of their own standings/legacy in world history when they rushed into it, a war expedited by ego, Blair would never have knocked back Bush whatever he was told, there was too much to lose personally.

It's just the blatant avoiding the straight forward answers and the contempt he pays those running the inquiry that p1sses me off. Live by the sword die by the sword Teflon.

Hang on, "Blair" and "truth" in the same sentence?

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Have you seen the footage? Who does he think he is kidding with all those 'power hand gestures'.He looked like a glove puppet. So amateurish & obviously fake. Looked like he was trying way too hard to come across as genuine....................It didn't work!
They still think they can fool us with cheap tricks.

Agree.

It's become more than just a dispassionate legal investigation into what happened...and more a kind of highly emotional focus for various political grievances and agendas.

Some people won't stop until it's 'proved' 9/11 was an inside job and Bush and Blair were members of the Templars.

So why are so many facts being withheld from the inquiry and who exactly has the power to do this???

They told us if we had nothing to hide we had nothing to fear. Funny how they don't play by their own rules eh?

Large chunk of the email comms between Blair and Bush. The inquiry is simply not allowed to have it.

Also, of the 28 meetings Blair had with his cabinet up to the lead up to the war, only 14 were minuted. Was described today as unbelieveable, by commentators.

Why should it not be fair and just if your hero is shown up for what he is. ie an inveterate liar and self seeker?

No but all the families of those killed including all the innocent civilians have a right to know why the UK and US invaded Iraq with no legal or recognised mandate to do so.

How well do you think it was "sorted out" now that the country was virtually destroyed, and the installed so called democratic government is incapable of preventing the average loss of life to 10 people a day to terrorist activities within the peoples of the country?

We have to remember how the enquiry was set up. Gordon Brown wanted it to sit in secret, and it was the public row that forced a change to mostly public hearings. But no-one can be required to appear or to give evidence under oath. Barristers are not being used to cross examine witnesses. Given that most people think they were told lies about the reasons for the war, it is particularly unfortunate that nothing can be done if the lying continues.

This is EXACTLY what I mean. You will only believe what you want to believe, and no inquiry no matter how thorough is going to change your opinion.

That was my whole point btw - thanks for proving my point

I believe the enquiry was able to access this information. The issue was they were not allowed by Sir Gus O'Donell to it them public.

So to say they weren't allowed this info is actually untrue

Hi Chip, how are you? Still waiting to get together for that pint mate.

You're right here of course. Such a shame in our 'free, democratic, society'.
