Default Leonardo Dicaprio-best actor of our generation?

When I first saw this guy in Titanic I hated him, mainly because I also hated the film. I thought he was just teenage girl w8nk material. How wrong I was.
Over the years as I've seen him in everything including The Beach, Blood Diamond, The Aviator, Shutter Island and Inception I'm convinced that he is the very best actor of his/my generation.

The directors also seem to think so as Martin Scorsese keeps using him and Christopher Nolan could have had anyone after his success with TDK.

I think he is like DeNiro in his prime, but unlike him has a far wider range.

Until he worked with Scorcese he was pretty average, but Marty has brought him out of himself and like he did with DeNiro made him realise his potential.

Would love him to work with Tarrantino.

Having said that I still think Daniel Day lewis is a better actor than Leo!

I agree to an extent. Changed my mind about him when I saw Blood Diamond. He seems to be one of those actors who gets better with age.

Cool

I agree. I didn't like him in Titanic (though I did like the film) but he just gone from strength to strength since the. In fact, I would go so far as to say his involvement in a film would make me wish to see it.

I always think he plays the same, slightly angry character every time.
I can never take him seriously either as he looks about 5.

Yes agreed - Blood Diamond and Body of Lies are great films and he plays the parts convincingly

Not seen inception or shutter island

Sorry, but I don't rate ANY actor or actress that I can INSTANTLY recognise in the film. If I can, then they are playing the same part.

Judi Dench is a case in point, plays Judi Dench in everything she's ever been in.

I've grown to like him more and more but he's not my favorite actor. I don't really have a favorite.

He is good in Inception and Shutter Island. If they ever get the remake of Farenhiet 451 off the ground, I think he'd suit the lead quite well.

I think one of the most adaptable is Gary Oldman. He is hardly every the same from one film to the next. Excellent actor IMO.

He seems to have been in quite a lot over the last few years and they are all good films.
Although a while further back i really like "Catch me if you can".

Matt Damon, Tim Roth, and Johnny Depp take some beating for "new" generation actors.
Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson are convincing.
Jack Nicholson and DeNiro are the daddies for me.

Blood Diamond and Catch me if you can. Played very very good roles in both IMO.

Found the Beach to be a bit pants IMO; different, yes but not his greatest feat.

Matt Damon is good but better suited to action roles (Bourne).

Depp is much more adaptive than all of them IMO.

What does that mean? A good actor should be unrecognisable by you??? Either you need to have Alzheimers for that to happen or the actor needs to be wearing a gorilla suit!

Dicaprio has played roles as diverse as an obsessive compulsive multi millionaire from the 1930s, a south african mercenary, a cia agent and the list goes on.

Good call Deep, Dicaprio is a fine actor. One of the best of his generation. I never rated him in his younger days, considered him lightweight and just window dressing. However he has shown he is a very capable and diverse actor.

Yeah, I reckon DiCaprio.

Never wanted to and resisted for ages, but he's a damn fine actor.

In Shutter Island and Inception he played the exact same frazzled persona. I thought he was poor in both roles.

Decaprio is a bit over exposed and over rated. His roles are a bit samey, like Hugh grant's bumbling fop, but not as ****e.

Modern actors that get less work, but are more diverse, for me, are Joaquin Phoenix, Ed norton, and don cheadle. Jeff bridges remains the boss of all actors IMO.

the Mj best modern actor Oscar however goes to the lad that played McLovin. Genius.

You can't compare Decaprio to Hugh Grant, the latter just plays himself ie a posh twit who thinks its funny to swear in a posh accent!

Ed Norton, though great in some roles like American hisory X has made some really awful films.

Agreed on Jeff Bridges though, fantastic

For me Gangs of New York, Blood Diamond and Body of Lies are his best films to date.

Shutter island and Inception are both over hyped, epic fails. Good storyline but lacks the charisma thqt DiCaprio is more then capable of delivering.

No denying though, he is one of our generations finest actors.

He got nominated for an Oscar in 1993 for "What's Eating Gilbert Grape' but I hated Titanic. I thought he was good in 'The Aviator' and 'Inception' though.

I thought it was JD nominated for What's eating Gilbert Grape, but Leonardo de Caprio was good in that film.

However the premise proposed by the OP suggests "man love" to me.

Seems it's only you picking up on that vibe so far, sweetie.

Ed Norton is a fantastic actor, Bale is very good in the fighter & has a good range of talent. DiCaprio has definitely got better with age.

DeNiro, Keitel, Roth, Depp, Caine, Fishburne, Busciemi, Fonda, Wayne, Nicholson & Grant are some of my favourites, there are some very good actors out there that improved with age.
