Where are Laurel and Hardy??
With so many channels and there always being an episode of Friends or Only Fools and Horses on some cable channel or another why is there never repeats of Laurel and Hardy on??

The original and still the best comedy duo
There was a big copyright battle that went on for years which saw no showings or VHS/DVD releases of their material. It was sorted a couple of years back, but the TV companies have never bothered since.

Think it a generational thing. With the ratings race, would be a bit risky putting silent/early talky films back on.
Harold Lloyd,Abbot and Costello et al were all over the tv when I was growing up-no-ones interested now, what with instant gratification reality television...

I find it difficult to believe that its a financial gamble to show these programmes. I mean there seems to be channels showing all sorts of rubbish ie a wedding channel.
Is it really that difficult for one of the cable channels to show these programmese? I think my kids would enjoy the humour much like when my dad introduced them to me.

Perhaps try watching them ?
This is not me holding them in reverence because its old or because I am some rabid fan, I am not but they are surprisingly funny if you take the time to watch them.
I agree, should be on constant repeat on a specific channel if Hi De Hi still gets an airing !

TV this Christmas was dire - i dislike the Royale Family Vicker and of Dribbley and especially Friends. Laurel and Hardy would have made a refreshing and fun change!

Always loved their films.
There are a couple who are the spitting image of them who turn up every year at Goodwood for the Revival meeting. They drive around in an old car and I keep waiting for the doors and wings to fall off. They are a good laugh anyway.

L&H is the comical framework for many more modern(ish) sitcoms; Old Fools and Horses and Steptoe and Son being prime examples. More recently; Peep Show.
Two simple men; one slightly cleverer than the other put in varyingly awkward situations where it should not pose an issue for the average person, however they always make a mess of it, with amusing consequences. Most modern sitcoms are a twist of the same themes just with different types of people in differing situations/environment.

I remember they used to show them this time of year as filler for the kids telly, along with Tom and Jerry, great fun sat there with some Terry's Neapolitans and watch that waiting for the main event which would be either Krull, Empire Strikes Back or Flash Gordon.

If you can laugh at Laurel and Hardy at the age of five or six, then still laugh at them at the age of 38 it tells you something about what comic geniuses they were.
The MacGregor double takes were hilarious as well! Blue Headed Mountains of Virginia is just hilarious, and I think I will be buying that boxset soon!
