If I buy some parts from the US, will I get stung for extra money when it arrives in the UK?

Thanks
Steve

VAT at 17.5% on declared value (maybe more after next weeks budget )
Fee to the carrier as they were so kind to collect the tax on behalf of HMCE, some charge flat fee others a percentage of the amount collected.
Possibly import duty, again percentage of declared value.

Although some packages will get through without charge a lot depends on the carrier handling the delivery this end and you have to factor the extra into the cost. Especially if it's delivered this end by a man (or woman) in a red van as they won't hand the package over until you come up with the payment. Some carriers will invoice you later.

See http://www.hmce.gov.uk for info.

Thanks for the replies.
Think I'll try and buy the bits over here then!
